Is This Guy Our QBOTF?

Postby RiverDog » Sun Oct 02, 2022 6:22 am

“Eleven NFL scouts here in the press box to watch, most notably, UK QB Will Levis, including the Texans, Bills, Eagles, Jets, Dolphins, Raiders, Saints, Lions, Giants, Seahawks and Falcons,” Dellenger tweeted.

This marks at least two times Seattle has been reported to scout Kentucky. The Seahawks are most likely evaluating Levis among the other Kentucky prospects. Seattle director of college scouting Matt Berry was one of the NFL evaluators at the September 10 SEC showdown between Kentucky and Florida.

There is still plenty of time before the 2023 draft, but Levis has emerged as the next quarterback in line after Alabama’s Bryce Young and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud. Through the first four games, Levis has thrown for 1,185 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 67.5% of his passes. After notching nine rushing touchdowns in 2021, Levis already has two TDs on the ground through the first month of the season.

Levis is drawing some comparisons to Bills quarterback Josh Allen, a player who the Seahawks showed an interest in prior to the 2018 draft. At 6’3″ and 232 pounds, Levis possesses similar physical characteristics as the Buffalo signal-caller, albeit a bit smaller.

I saw him play vs. Florida a few weeks ago and wasn't that impressed, but it was just a small snap shot. Anyone else know anything about this guy?

67% completion in college isn’t too impressive on its face but accuracy was an Allen issue including early in his pro career . I’ll be honest River . When I see bust after bust on the top qb picks I have a hard time getting excited about the next big prospect you know ? Last couple years ….wow .

I guess the fact that John scouted both Mahomes and Allen as well as snagging Wilson makes these inquiries more credible . They were able to come up with a very solid bridge starter in Geno and my curiosity about Drew is not over by any means . What might a year in this system do for him ?Hell on a 1-2 team a really bad half by Geno we might find out .

I’d as soon leave no stone unturned before blowing a couple #1s and wind up back with Lock or Geno anyway

There's nothing wrong with a 67% completion percentage. I'd be a lot more concerned with turnovers, of which doesn't seem to be a huge issue (10:4 TD:INT).

I don't think you can judge our scouting credibility by Allen's and Mahomes's success, at least not without seeing what other teams were looking at them.

I watch him every week, already decided he'll be on my 3-deep next year. Penix as well maybe a bit further down.

Physically he reminds me of Carson Wentz, but I don't know what's going on between his ears so if his decision making is better then he could be a possible draft target.
There are a lot of games to go in College to see if he progresses and he seems to have a bit of Josh Allen in him when he runs but I'll wait to see more of him.
A lot will depend on the teams drafting ahead of us, though.

I like Josh Allen. So if he can be Josh Allen, sign me up. Any QB we draft is going to be a risk, so we gotta take and hope they can develop into better than we got. Unless for some reason first half Geno can become all the time Geno. Then I guess we roll with Geno for a while. Geno is way outperforming Tarvaris Jackson up to game 4, at least first half Geno is. I think Pete gets too conservative in the second half.

Levis seems like the real deal. He is playing behind a terrible offensive line, especially at RT. He does not have the kind of talent around him like QBs for teams like Ohio State, Alabama, and the sort. He has a strong, accurate arm, runs well, and is a leader.

Bob- are you picking him in your 3 deep because A) you think we'll get him, B) because you hope we get him, or C) both A and B. Obviously A would be part a major part of you picking him because that's the point of the whole Mock Draft. I'm really asking because I am wondering if you like him. You have watched him for years and he's been projected to us, what do you think? Should we be excited about him?

Right now more B than A, too much year left to pin down his draft position yet, or ours. And he only got on my radar last year when he transferred to KU from Penn State.

Hey, he had an 18 year career and was a league MVP in 2002. Not exactly a diss of a comparison, even though I don't think it's very apt.

Rich Gannon?
Not even close. He's built more like a RB and has a big arm. Gannon's arm was OK, but he was pretty slight in comparison.
Levis future in the NFL will depend upon his ability to process the game at a much faster level. If he can do that, he can be quite effective.

He looks great at this level, and SEC football is a damn good yardstick! I think he'll do well as a pro.

Good comments. Unfortunately, I haven't watched enough comments to form a decent opinion of him. He's definitely a QB to keep an eye on.

I was glad to see the Broncos lose yesterday. If comparative scores mean anything, they could be in trouble as even some of the teams that were assumed to be gimmie's, like the Jags and Jets, are proving to be tough outs. I think that there is a possibility that we could be getting a top 5 pick from Denver.

And they lost their best RB for the season and one of their best D-line guys may be out as well. And their coach still sucks. Their coach won't be beating other coaches in too many tight games.

Honestly, I didn't see why Denver was being hyped. Besides their RBs, Denver looked just ok. I don't think their receivers are near as good as advertised. I think we're getting a top five pick from Denver after that Raiders loss. It's gonna be nice.

I may have suggested a top 5 from Denver pre season. So far so good . And yeah teams have to hope the jags don’t kick their tail forget win .
The league is on its head . There’s no dominant team. Everyone including me was on Buffalos jock and they lose to the midget from Miami , now concussed . I don’t know if I have ever seen such a wide open league with no clear favorite .

Since we have the Bronco''s first pick, it is fun to pull against them (even without concerning the whole Russell thing), it is interesting that they just lost 2 of their best players, as Javonte Williams, RB is out for the year suddenly, and DL Randy Gregory is also gone, and he is a leader. And Russell has a sore arm. From week to week we will see fortunes change with key injuries, and we can only hope that it won't hurt us. But, then, we could use a high pick of our own, so maybe it wouldn't hurt us, but, then, we want to win and develop a winning attitude, but, then, if we get a winning attitude they might not fire Pete (love him), but, then, we need a winning attitude so maybe it's better to keep Pete, but, then, all we can do is watch and hope.

Rob Staton over at seahawksdraftblog.com has been on the Levis bandwagon since he was doing film study for this last draft. He was saying all along that the Hawks should avoid drafting a QB and target Levis. He was assuming, like me, that the Hawks were going to be in line for a top-5 pick, which he thinks will be necessary to get Levis. (Staton thinks Levis is the best QB in the draft and that he'll be #1 on a lot of NFL boards.)

It’s a long season so our record could be real bad or surprisingly good.
What we do have is enough draft ammo to move up if we want to for who they think is the best QB available.
Maybe after it’s all said and done our FO will go after a QB not currently on the radar or one they can get in
the 2nd round or later. That’s if they think we need one which isn’t a given with this regime.

With Geno playing as well as he is, we need more defense than a high pick on QB right now.

Here is a good question. Next year, we have a top draft pick. Geno Smith ends the year playing at a Pro Bowl level like he is now. You have the chance to draft the next Nick Bosa/Aaron Donald or the next Patrick Mahomes/Josh Allen type of QB, which one do you draft given the current state of the Seahawks defense and Geno Smith ending the year playing like he is now?

If the choice was Mahomes/Allen vs. Bosa/Donald, of course, I'd take one of those two quarterbacks. But remove the names and I'll take the defensive lineman as they seem to be the lower bust risk. Unless he were to play at an MVP level, Geno doesn't factor into the equation. He is not the long-term answer.

For me it depends on the QB. If the QB is a generational player then it would be foolish to miss on that, but if he's got a lot of holes in his game then the Defensive player would be the better choice.
My biggest fear is Geno plays well enough for our FO to bypass a QB who's a difference maker thinking Geno is the answer for right now and we end up looking for the next franchise QB for the next
decade as we wallow in the middle of the pack with a team not good enough to make the playoffs and not bad enough to get good draft picks. A top DL or LB isn't going to make as much of a difference
as a top QB in team fortunes.

As much as I love defense, I'd take a Josh Allen or Pat Mahomes too. What Pat Mahomes did last week was circus style QBing. Just crazy improvisation.

Geno smith is setting NFL and team records . He’s on another planet from Jimmy G and especially Mayfield who is being booed and would be benched but Darnold is hurt .

If Geno is mediocre he’s not going to finish the year . If he plays at this level he’s getting a nice 3 or 4 year deal somewhere . If he stays hot I want him here. So does DK and Rocket and also Rashaad Penny who said he’s a quarterback who doesn’t “ mess with the plays “ and has shown confidence in penny . If Geno plays like this all year , penny too and we get any defense at all we’re going to the tournament . You want to trade 77% completion for the next Trey Lance have at it . Pete and john won’t .

I saw this rumor the other day and thought it interesting:

According to Heavy’s Matt Lombardo, the Seahawks are one of three teams — the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers being the others — considering a trade destination for the Dallas Cowboys’ Cooper Rush. The former undrafted quarterback has made waves as of late in Dallas, winning all three of his starts this season for the Cowboys.

Lombardo argues that the Seahawks don’t have a long-term solution at quarterback. Even with Geno Smith’s hot start to the season — he has completed an NFL-record 77.3 percent of his passes during his first four starts of the season — Seattle could look towards the younger Rush to lead them in the near future.

“However, Pete Carroll and the Seahawks coaching staff’s lack of belief in Drew Lock was evident this summer, and with Smith on a one-year deal, perhaps Seattle views Rush as the type of quarterback who can carry the baton and keep the Seahawks in the mix in the NFC West for years to come,” says Lombardo.

A flash in the pan?
It sounds a bit like history repeating itself with Matt Flynn if it happens.
Rush has a great Defense to bail him out in Dallas and a good surrounding cast.
Our FO will probably give up both 1sts for him.

I wish we had Geno for longer and he played well all season, then we Bill Belichick some team and trade them Geno for a 1st round pick just as he reverts to the mean again or they find out that he can look great as long as its not the fourth quarter with the game on the line or he has to step up in a shootout.
