The big question mark is Trey Lance. Reading comments like those from Martz really makes me wonder what the hell it is that Shannahan sees in him that has caused him to make the commitment that he has. Shannahan is a very highly regarded offensive mind, one of the top young coaches in the league. Can he be that wrong?

Having Jimmy on the bench is a double edged sword for them; he's a solid if limited QB, but he also puts pressure on Lance. Of course, Lance could have a breakout game. I just hope it's not against us.

execute the plays as called much like Jimmy G but with a larger upside. I inferred from the reports
that he was talked into Lance by Lynch (or maybe Lynch pulled rank - Who knows how these things evolve).
So they selected a player who had very limited experience and gave away a bunch of draft capital in
doing so. Now they are reaping the rewards of high risk. He may work out in the end, but he has a big
learning curve to overcome.

I’m not saying Lance will never be good, because he does have tools; I just don’t understand why Shanahan decided to rush anoint him as the starter this year if he’s clearly over his head. Unless John Lynch decided it.
NorthHawk wrote:Lance is very young, so any sign of a lack of confidence from the HC could cause him to doubt himself or set him back somewhat.
All coaches show support for their players, until they don't, then they move on.
I'm not going to say Lance has no future, but it may take so long for him to develop that the rest of the 49ers milght be on the downside of their careers when he does.
Keep in mind he only played in a handful of games the 2 years before he entered the draft.
NorthHawk wrote:For some reason we seem to have the 49ers number and I expect a close game again today.
Some teams just have a curse on them it seems when playing another. The Colts have lost 7 straight to the Panthers of all teams.
If something strange happens we might even squeak out a win, even if we are short comparable talent on the field.
And the weather might become a factor, too.

I think losing Diggs was a bigger loss than JA, we got no one to cover Samuel's. I think they win the game, but hell I been wrong before, and hopefully again.
RiverDog wrote:Diggs was a full participant in Thursday's practice, but I agree that he's a more important piece to our defense than Adams.
We should see at least some of Ken Walker today, but I'd be surprised if he gets more than 10 touches.
I-5 wrote:Let's hope our run game is on point today. I kind of wanna see not just Penny and Walker, but Deejay Dallas, too. He showed something in preseason that would be nice if he can translate it to the regular season. Its going to be a game of big plays.

We lost some plays to penalty. and if anyone can explain wtf we were doing with back to back wildcat and Dee Jay throwing the pick after Geno had led the best drive of the night I’d like to hear that . It’s not enough to explain this loss . Ugly in every phase . There is no defending this performance other than the blocked fg. Ultimately 1-1. I expected a win. I think Lance getting hurt threw us for a loop . On to Atlanta ! GO HAWKS!

The only head scratcher to me is the terrible start the Bengals are getting off to. Burrow just doesn't look like magic man yet.
Should be a good game tomorrow night between the Titans and the Bills.
