Your "if healthy he’s top 5" opinion is not at all over the top, it's telling everyone that dares to say "yeah but" that they're rooting against him that's over the top.

How about there’s people who don’t want to lose an argument. If any of you can show where you were specifically accused of rooting against the dude I stand corrected . Just seems like any bad news about penny is front and center . Kinda like Geno . Similar story line . From 9 months ago when I said he had played starter caliber ball and got ridiculed to now with him starting the first preseason game I’ve lapped you doubters . You’re 3 laps down whether he wins this or not . Yeah I know in real life you never root against anyone but in this forum you root against HT being right about anything . I’ve been optimistic AF for months and I’d think someone would say gee Ht I hope you’re right instead of blah blah blah this is why we’re gonna suck . The hell with that ! GO HAWKS!!!

Bad news about a Seahawk is always front and center. Just take a look at Beast. Did I start that thread because I have some sort of gripe about him or don't want to lose an argument? Good, bad, or indifferent, it's news.

I've have had my problems with Penny since the day we drafted him, and it has little to do with him or his ability. I don't like spending high draft picks on running backs because, unlike 30-40 years ago when we were growing up, offenses seldom revolve around them. You can find very good running backs, like Chris Carson, in the lower rounds. It's a quarterback's league. Most RB's are not 3 down players and come out in passing situations. They are more injury prone and have shorter careers. I also didn't think he was the best running back available when we selected him. We can argue about those points, and often times do. But that's my philosophy, and I see no reason why I shouldn't be allowed to post about it.

Of course, I will bring to people's attention when something occurs that supports my original argument. Other posters do the same thing, including yourself. That doesn't mean that I'm rooting against him. And of course, I don't like being wrong. Do you?

You have taken on a minority opinion on a lot of issues, Penny and Geno being two examples. When that happens to anyone, they have to expect a disproportionate amount of criticism. People are more likely to post about something they disagree with, or at least post with longer comments and details.

I stand behind it 100%

As for condition he entered camp in the best shape of his career . Now he has “ tightness “ in his groin , not a strain or pull preventing Carroll from putting him in a meaningless preseason game . I know he put up 671 in 6 starts last year so let’s see when the games start counting . If he can’t get on the field Walker can . GO HAWKS

I don't know about "over the top", but normally you have to earn being a top 5 talent. If you have a lot of "but when healthy...but when the scheme is right...but behind a good O-line", you're not really a top 5 back. Some of us feel like you have to earn being rated a top 5 back. It's not something you are because of "potential", it's something you are because you earned it with production.

What I’m trying to say in my clipped syntax is if healthy I BELIEVE he will be a top 5 back minimum . I had forgotten his first of 6 starts was 2 carries, an explosive 19 yard run and a 2 yard dive and a sprain of some sort . In his last 5 games he averaged an astounding 7.2 ypc and had more yards after contact then Jonathan Taylor had yards . Yeah I think he will be top 5 if healthy .

I'll hope you're right and his best years are ahead of him and he's learned how serious conditioning and taking care of yourself is at the pro level. The opposing defense is trying to kill you. No room for anything less than everything you got and being ready for the beating.

Time will tell with penny . 3 seasons of injury and inconsistency then wham 5 games for the record book . Now there’s twangs and tweaks and tightness . Some suggest conditioning is off . We will no soon enough . Good lord as fast as the man is imagine if he were in shape. With all the key injuries this team has maybe they need take a look at their strength and conditioning operation . The good news is Walker looked good as did every back . We don’t need penny to win . We need to run to win . If we have penny we have an elite run game . But we will run on everyone .

I wasn't that impressed with Walker. Both Dallas and Homer looked lots better, ran with authority. It's obviously way early but at this point, Walker looks to me to be #4 on the depth chart.

I'm a little concerned about Penny's inactivity during the preseason. He needs to get into game shape if he's going to be our bell cow, get used to taking handoffs from someone other than Russell Wilson. I can't see him going from no carries at all in the preseason then 20-25 touches per game in September.
