I don't agree. Having a great Defense doesn't preclude having a very good Offense.
When you have a pop gun Offense and a dominant Defense you are going to lose more than you should.
We should have steamrolled a lot of teams, but just barely won and the Defense had to have turnovers on a number of those for us to get a chance to win.
It's a very risky strategy and if our Defense wasn't one of the best ever, we probably wouldn't have got to 2 Super Bowls.
Balance is the key. The Defense isn't always going to be great and when they aren't, the Offense should be able to pull their weight and make up for it.

Pete's offensive philosophy back then was just fine. The problem is that once it became apparent that our defense was waning, he didn't adjust the offense to compensate, or at least didn't adequately adjust it.

Thats it in a nutshell. This where I think Hawktalk is OTL, I think RW rocks this year.

You can't argue with his success. With Pete's strategy, we were in every game. We never got blown out. We set a league record for consecutive games not lost by more than 10 points. I was perfectly happy with the run first, avoid turnovers, don't put the defense in bad spots offense. Going to two consecutive Super Bowls, blowing out one opponent and nearly beating the second is pretty difficult to improve upon.

We did have success, but we had a wildly talented team on Defense. It's a rarity to have that much talent and it might not be doable again during our lifetime.
Marshawn Lynch was the key on Offense. With a lesser RB, we wouldn't have been as successful. Like I said back in 2012/2013, we would see how good the Offense is without him.
And as soon as he retired, the Ol was exposed as being sub par and the Offense never really recovered even with Wilson winning games by himself on many occasions. How many times
after losses did we say we only needed 1 first down or a drive that was more than 6 plays after Lynch was gone? Those were all winnable games if we had a reasonably good Offense at the time.

Finding a Marshawn might be even harder than building another great defense. Marshawn was a definite throwback RB to a time when RBs were durable and used to pound defenses like Csonka. Lynch was a real throwback RB.

Which means you have to build a good OL.
Maybe they are on their way now, but it's been a series of misadventures so far.

I do like the steps we've taken to that end this year so far.

I’m excited about Adams in the hands of a capable D coordinator . He is an explosive dynamic guy that has been a game changer . Dude was hurt like seemingly every god damn draft pick , starter , FA Seattle has had lately . Bad trade blah blah blah. We have the guy and we have the guy to deploy him too. I think he might pay off in year 3.

It was Pete's Defense no matter the DC.
If he couldn't find how to use him maybe it was a catalyst for change on Pete's behalf.
Adams is just not a great Safety. He may find a role as some type of hybrid, but he hasn't shown to be a good traditional Safety in Seattle.
