I am a little surprised at the negativity from some on this signing. IMO, especially after trading Wilson, it had to be done. I am ecstatic.
I was actually just talking to my buddy the other day after a blockbuster trade in the NHL (Tkachuck for Huberdeau +) and commenting on how much has changed over the years with fans. It always was about the player signed or traded for and that was it. Nowadays, and it's a totally valid concern, but things like cap hits, signing bonuses, guaranteed money, injury history, leadership qualities, etc.. come into play when fan analyzes transactions.
This one for me is a "good ol day" signing, an awesome player who is ready to take the next step, who has been super productive (although still plenty to develop in his game). Don't care what it took in terms of cap hit, DK needed to be re-signed and has earned that 2nd contract with the Seahawks. Trading him for picks would have been crushing for myself after already losing Wilson and Wagner.
