I am a little surprised at the negativity from some on this signing. IMO, especially after trading Wilson, it had to be done. I am ecstatic.

I was actually just talking to my buddy the other day after a blockbuster trade in the NHL (Tkachuck for Huberdeau +) and commenting on how much has changed over the years with fans. It always was about the player signed or traded for and that was it. Nowadays, and it's a totally valid concern, but things like cap hits, signing bonuses, guaranteed money, injury history, leadership qualities, etc.. come into play when fan analyzes transactions.

This one for me is a "good ol day" signing, an awesome player who is ready to take the next step, who has been super productive (although still plenty to develop in his game). Don't care what it took in terms of cap hit, DK needed to be re-signed and has earned that 2nd contract with the Seahawks. Trading him for picks would have been crushing for myself after already losing Wilson and Wagner.

Yes I can’t understand the overall gloomy tone on the forum . We just locked up a racehorse for 4 seasons , maybe not the best receiver (yet) but certainly the most bad ass secondary player destroying beast mode receiver in the league . Hr doesn’t trip over the 40 . I’m extatic

It’s reality.
The talent level isn’t at the point where we can challenge for a championship and it’s going to take a few years.

That's just it. If we had a team in place that was a legitimate contender, then I wouldn't be so negative towards the signing. But IMO you don't build a championship team around a great WR like the Cowboys tried with Terrell Owens and later Dez Bryant, among the many other examples that I've given.

I understand how and why people disagree with my opinion, but I don't know why it's so hard to get people to understand my rationale.

Yeah well optimism seems unpopular . I don’t see the talent level as that bad . Excellent skill people . Some really good defenders, some stars . Line and QB are questionable but I think we’re going to be a tough out for people . The guys will have plenty of blackboard material to feed on .

They aren't building around DK. Not sure why you think they are. They signed a market value contract for a high performing receiver they drafted during a period when they don't have a huge QB contract or huge money tied up practically anywhere that is very team friendly and extends DK for 3 years, hardly a contract anyone would look at as "building the team around a WR." You're talking like this is some record breaking WR contract that we signed for six years and we're trapped and Pete went into press conference saying the team is building around DK. Not what happened at all.

You're viewpoint doesn't at all fit the contract extension DK signed. That is not at all a contract trapping us in anyway or that looks like John broke the bank to build around a WR. Looks like a pretty well done contract extension for both the team and player at a time we can afford it.

The two most important parts of a high level football team are huge talent question marks in the O and D line. I'd be a lot more optimistic myself if the O and D line were high performing units. I have to see how these new guys do before I hope on.

Also not the greatest to see one of your star safeties starting off two fingers down and your most consistent starting RB retiring.

We have amazing WRs and a good TE group. Very solid MLB. Our starting safeties when healthy are good.

But everywhere else I see question marks with potential. And at QB I see a couple of placeholders that read QB placeholder 1 and 2 that say, "Insert real QB as soon as drafted."

A team doesn't get better by trading away all of it's best players. The talent drain on this team has been extreme already this year, we needed to re-sign DK.

We lost a lot of talent but we already acquired a lot too. We don’t always agree to say the least but I’m as happy as you about DK. Awesome
