c_hawkbob's annual Three Deep Mock, 2022

Postby c_hawkbob » Thu Apr 07, 2022 6:48 am

Well here we are three weeks before the draft and the full 7 round mocks are starting to appear, so to give you all a fair chance to get your picks in here is my three deep mock for this year. Reminder; be mindful of your spelling, when tallying the score I copy and search the word document I add everybody's mock to so if it's spelled wrong, you might not get credit! Also we only count three prospects for each pick we have right now, I won't keep track of predicted trades.

Scoring:
- 1 point for each player that we draft
- 1 point for the correct round drafted
- 1/2 point for each player from your mock that we sign as UDFA’s
- 1/2 point for a player you have listed first in a round.

Here's mine:

Round 1 (9)
1- Charles Cross, OT, Miss. State

2- Kayvon Thibodeaux, Edge, Oregon
3- Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner, CB, Cincinnati

Round 2 (40)
1- Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa

2- Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah
3- Jermaine Johnson II, Edge, Florida State

Round 2 (41)
1- Matt Corral QB Mississippi

2- Daxton Hill, S, Michigan
3- Kyler Gordon, CB, Washington

Round 3 (72)
1- Logan Hall, DL, Houston

2- Josh Paschal, Edge, Kentucky
3- Nicholas Petit Frere, OT, Ohio State

Round 4 (109)
1- Alex Wright, Edge, UAB

2- Sam Williams, EDGE, Ole Miss
3- Kellen Diesch, OT, Arizona State

Round 5 (145)
1- Luke Goedeke, OT, Central Michigan

2- Justin Shaffer, G, Georgia
3- Brian Asamoah, LB, Wisconsin

Round 5 (153)
1- Dylan Parham, G, Kentucky

2- Zyon McCollum, CB, Sam Houston State
3- Pierre Strong Jr., RB, South Dakota State

Round 7 (229)
1- Bo Melton, WR, Rutgers

2- Makai Polk, WR, Mississippi State
3- Daniel Bellinger, TE, San Diego State

I assume we can edit our picks, but do you have a final cutoff? For example, do you allow edits of 2nd round picks based on the results of the first round? Or do you close out all picks once the draft begins on Thursday? In any event, here's mine:

2- Ikem Ekwonu, OT, NC State
3- Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia

2- Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa
3- Jermaine Johnson II, Edge, Florida State

Round 2 (41)
1- Bernhard Raimann, OT, Central Michigan
2- Desmond Ridder, QB, Cincinnati
3- Brandon Smith, OLB, Penn State

Round 3 (72)
1- Daniel Faalele, OT, Minnesota
2- Tariq Woolen, CB, Texas-San Antonio
3- Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina

Round 4 (109)
1- Alex Wright, Edge, UAB
2- Sam Williams, EDGE, Ole Miss
3- Kellen Diesch, OT, Arizona State

Round 5 (145)
1- Akayleb Evans, CB, Missouri
2- Micheal Clemons, DE, Texas A&M
3- Zachary Carter, DE, Florida

Round 5 (153)

Boy Jermaine Johnson II was sure a popular pick, almost every one of us had him on their boards.

I definitely would have put him down for us in round 1, which is why I don't do these things- don't spend enough time studying college players. Hopefully Cross is the next Walt!!!

Driving across WV and KY yesterday, got home to a deep freezer full of ruined meat and blood all over my garage floor last night, wasn't able to catch up with day 2 till late ... I like the Bookend Tackles, love that we got one of the better Edge Rushers and of course the obligatory WTF pick of a late round RB in the second.

As for the pool: we've got a lot of good scoring this year! Looks like Zorn2Largent is leading the way with 4 1/2 points as he and Sam TriCitySam nailed the Lucas pick!

Good luck to all of us (especially the team) today!

I think everyone recognized he's a good player and was worthy of our pick at #9 but they chose to go a different route.

Regarding Jermaine Johnson, I read right before the draft he didn't interview so well and he may have possible gang affiliations. Yikes! Probably why he fell. He was mocked in the top ten in many of the later mocks and fell to 26th.

These stories makes you wonder. Scouts and teams have had a couple of years learning about them and just days before the draft it comes to light that he might have gang affiliations?
It just sounds suspicious to me with the timing.

Well, after our last pick the scoring looks like this:

- I've got 5 points for maxing out with Charles Cross in the first and Bo Melton in the 7th.
- Zorn2Largent has 4.5 points; 2 for Charles Cross and 2.5 for Abraham Lucas
- Old but Slow got 3 points, 1 for Abraham Lucas and 2 for Boye Mafe
- TriCitySam has 2.5 points for maxing out with Abraham Lucas
- Sis got 2 points for Bo Melton
- Tarl has 2 points for Boye Mafe
- NorthHawk has 2 points, one each for Abraham Lucas and Tariq Woolen
- hoxgmp got 2 points for Boye Mafe
- Riv has 1 point for Tariq Woolen
- govandals got 1 point for Abraham Lucas

Now we wait for UDFA's!

I still cannot believe c-bob called the first round as accurately as I can ever recall. I wonder if anyone else has ever called the first round pick like this in the 12 year history Pete's been here.

Thanks for doing this, Bob. It’s always appreciated!

Not that it matters, but I also had Boye Mafe the 2nd. Can’t help call it out…. I’m competitive. ;)

Sure enough! 2 more points for Sis! (he was pick 40 ... next year I'm gonna have to specify pick number instead of round for the bonus half point).

Luckily I grade for content, not spelling ... unfortunately a document search is spelling selective, anyone else have missed credit speak up, of course it matters!

I'm going to officially say no, it hasn't. I haven't kept all of these from the PI and State of Football till now but I'm sure I'd remember if it had (of course I'm 65 and running low on RAM so take it for what it's worth).

And I am fine with however you set up the rules about pick #. We almost made it the whole draft w/o trading back into another position this year…really, if someone would have called that… ;)

Thanks for doing this again this year. As usual I can’t figure out who they will pick.

Any site you know of that has the list of UFAs this year?

I'll add my thanks Bob, great job!

I should have avoided the noise and not modified my 1st 3 deep - should have taken the sage advice of Bill Parcels that you DO NOT modify your board due to late risers, but I will say this:

When you go and look at some of the professional mockers who did multiple round projections, our group stacks up pretty well: Rob Staton and Rob Rang didn't have any in their mocks. Vincent Frank had Walker, FanNation had Cross. Bob Condotta (Seattle Times) did the best with Cross and Woolen.

This was the first year that I participated, and it added some extra interest to our picks. Thanks for running it, C-Bob!
