Seahawk Current State

Postby tarlhawk » Thu Apr 28, 2022 7:04 am

I enjoy the ups and downs of an unpredictable sport...the drama that plays out on an NFL field where seldom there is balance because many unique humans blessed with skills and bursting egos are involved. Human aggression and inspiration join into compelling entertainment...winning against the odds over a rival dedicated to defeating you with every visit satisfies a need to witness it played out.

When "looking for blame" with our current state (following a painful losing 2021 season and loss of Seahawk Icons Russell Wilson/Bobby Wagner)you can find it...blame has never resolved a conflict of interest because we as fans are powerless to bring about the outcomes we claim to favor. Perhaps that is not a bad thing...the "sport *psuedo business*" continues to evolve out of something it was into something less tuned to the casual fan. Rules are altered to bring about desired effects not "improvements". Marketing forces and the wealthy power they offer tempt to alter the original simpler draw of pure drama...with manufactured drama.

Identifying with a "team" grows more difficult as free agency trumps loyalty...national television creates/empowers sacrifice that was once reserved for playing in front of the home crowds via local media.

My own views of this team fit my ideals of what I seek in NFL entertainment. I see a positive thriving playing environment led by competent coaching/vision which inspires teamwork more than it inspires an indivual player. I see excitement played out on the playing field...there is an X's and O's strategy meshed in schemes designed to make defeating our opponent a likelihood not a "dream".

Pete Carroll was and is a very good coach...not always...he grew into the traits that have allowed him to inspire and hold a commanding presence. He is well paid...but so are 31 other coaches...much of his accomplishments are quickly dismissed as his "past" yet you see and hear from many players past and present he creates an environment that inspires/draws out the best in the "team" concept. Players have fun while playing a sport they love and enjoying the competition ...prevalent in what lured them to football in the first place.

When I was a Miami Dolphin fan (in the 80s mostly) Don Shula was respected and admired but (with Dan Marino) only made a single Super Bowl trip. Similar to our own maligned defense (as RW became more "fast strike") so did Miami's defense get chastised as being bad while Dan Marino and his own quick strike offense was characterised as "being held back" by its defense... and sometimes the lack of a true RB threat.

Those who point out that our Front Office needs replaced (PC/JS must go... they chant)...you discount the ability for them to attract good coaches (Sean Desai and Karl Scott both highly regarded) and get the best out of our team.

No mistake Pete Carroll has his thumbprint on the team's operations (its kinda in the title... Vice President of Football Operations?) but to boldly profess our various highly paid Offensive and Defensive Coordinators are merely "puppets" propped up with no input into the playbooks or schemes seems a bit much to swallow.

The NFL Draft (over the next 3 days) is a golden opportunity to make our 2021 losing season a mirage...Go Hawks

Great post . I’m a bit late to the party as I was ready to blow it up after a few of the putrid losses this year . But Penney got rolling and the team won 4 of 6. It all changed when Russ left . Now we assess . As you say the coach is Hall of fame , very good motivator . Tyler Polumbus who played in both Seattle and Denver said he wasn’t sure if Locke is ready or not but he has “ never had a coach like Pete Carroll .” He mentioned his positive encouraging style . Polumbus was blocking on beast quake so he knows how motivational Pete can be . And so excited for the new coaches . Something has changed , Pete has loosened up . We have excellent skill people . Good young defenders , the O line is a question but looked pretty good late last year . Genos good enough to win some games . Not sure about Locke but he was 4-1 as a rook and got new coaches and fell off a cliff . and of course Eason . I will say if Seattle was responsible for the dramatic improvement in Genos play it’s good news for everyone in the QB room whether they bring in anyone or not .
And yeah draft here we come with a lot of capital . Optimistic .
