It's a no brainer to not exercise Carpenter's option. Apparently he's working hard already this offseason, which is a good sign, but he may be beat out by Bailey or Bowie anyway (per the link by HB).
He's a decent run blocker and has had moments of inspired play, but I don't trust the guy long term. I understand it takes time for an OL to gel. But during that time, more often than not, you see something that's indicative of growth for the future. And with James, all things considered, the Seahawks would be wise to plug in another option moving forward.
