Saving $27M in Cap charges.
I wonder if it’s just the start or if there’s going to more moves of players that don’t fit the new schemes.

Jones was a decent player, but not worth the kind of bucks we were paying him. Next man up!

Yeah, based on his $30 mil guarantee he go, he made about $3.5mil per sack with us. Not bad pay for minimal production.

Well we're now $16M under the cap with "more to come".

I'd guess something will happen with Lockett in the next few days, maybe even today. Either a massive pay cut- or flat-out release. His cap hit this year is just too much.
Geno as well, probably a 2 year extension to lower his cap hit this year. I don't see a trade market for him nor do I see them releasing him and handing it over to Howell or Ewers, Dart, Howard, etc.
I think we will see an extension with DK later this summer that will lower his cap hit for the year.

All these moves should give us a decent amount of dollars for a few FA additions.

With the Cap increase players will expect to get more in FA, too so we might end up paying more for a player than expected - and it makes me wonder if JS will balk at the increased cost for the IOL on the free market considering his stated disdain for the IOL value (over valued and over drafted).

The best Guard in the NFL, Joe Thuney was traded from the Chiefs to Bears for a 4th round pick. A multiple All Pro who slid from LG to LT because of incompetent LT play and did a decent job, he's now off the market so there are fewer good Guards in FA for us to sign. We might have to go for an athletic and intelligent Center to work this Offense of Kubiak as in the past he has had the Center make most of the line calls. If he's going to really fix the OL, JS can't wait until the 2nd week or it will remain a continued weakness holding the team back as it has for the past 10 or 11 years.

It looks like it will be a big change in the WR room. Not unexpected. However, on another note I have an idea that might work. I would rather cut Geno for a 3 year deal with Sam Darnold or Aaron Rodgers on a 2 year deal then stay and re-sign Geno, which is what he wants and the team seems to be behind. I don't get it. We have limited cap space and paying Geno more doesn't make any sense, so sign Gardner Minchew if Darnold or Aaron doesn't work out. He's no better or worse and would be a lot cheaper. If we're going to rebuild, having cap space is a major starting point.

I'd rather keep Geno and draft Jaxon Dart than waste my time with either of those two.
