He wasn't doing the job. Wise of him to retire then keep trotting out there and doing a bad job.

Olu doesn't seem ready, but next man up. Frisco probably going to crush us.

For what it's worth, PFF has Williams as the 18th ranked center in the league, just about middle of the road, which is a lot better ranking than they've given our past couple of centers.

The sudden retirement makes you wonder if there isn't something else under the surface, like a locker room issue. Williams is only 27 years old.

Not a bad blocker but his high snaps were drive killers. Rumors are we were looking at moving him to G, perhaps he caught wind of it and disapproved.

What rumors? Do you have a source?

Already linked the source:
Both Mike Macdonald and Ryan Grubb told reporters earlier in the week that there was consideration of moving Williams to guard, where he began his career with the Dallas Cowboys, but ultimately decided against it.

From the Fieldgulls article above.

OK, thanks. I hadn't read the article. But I really wouldn't call it a 'rumor'. They pretty much quoted Macdonald and Grubbs as saying it was something they talked about but decided against. Sounds pretty above board to me.

At Connor's level, if he got wind of it, it would have been a rumor to him.

Man I am starting to get the feeling that the Hawks are folding up like a cheap suit. I expect DK to start whining big time this week also, I don't see more than 3 more wins. Hope I am wrong, but do we play for draft position at some point?

I don't ever want to intentionally tank in order to achieve a better draft position. It breeds a culture of losing being an acceptable outcome and seldom works for teams that have tried it.

Having said that, there does come a point where you start looking ahead to next season, such as, sitting Geno and letting Howell show what he's got. But we're a long way from that point. We're just one game out of first place in our division, and outside of the Lions, a team we outgained when we played them, there isn't a dominant team in the conference.

True. You don't ever want to teach players or do anything not to go 100 percent. But at some seeing what you have that might be valuable to prepare for the draft and personnel planning for the next year. We gotta build this talent up and make better long-term decisions.

At least we don't have to worry about our weekly high snaps

Olu had a perfect pass block grade from PFF vs SF, 27-for-27

All I can imagine with Olu going from a heathy scratch the last couple games to looking like we'd all hoped he would when we picked him is that they gave him some strength training targets to hit before being activated and when Connor took a bow they decided he was close enough. Sure glad to see him play well whatever the case may be!
