Uh oh.

Geno Smith ruled out indefinitely with knee and hip injury, Sam Howell moved up to QB1

The Seattle Seahawks got hit with the injury bug this week at the top of the depth chart. Starting quarterback Geno Smith reportedly underwent imaging on Thursday night after suffering a knee and hip injury that kept him out of practice. The imaging indicated that Smith will not miss time during the regular season, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter, however, the team will move forward in training camp with backup QB Sam Howell taking Smith’s reps until his return to play.

"He’s working through a couple things from the other day,” first-year head coach Mike McDonald said on Thursday. “But we’ll get some imaging tonight, and we’ll see.”

Smith missed several practices this week after he got banged up at training camp on Tuesday.

We might be getting a close look at Sam Howell earlier than we thought.

Luckily, it looks to be nothing. Shefter just tweeted/Xcreted this:

Injury update: Testing on Seahawks QB Geno Smith’s knee and hip injuries did not reveal anything significant and, as one source said, “he shouldn’t miss any time.”

Let's hope so. Macdonald said that Geno was working through a couple things from the other day, and that he was getting "banged up." How is that happening to the starting quarterback in the first week of practice? Isn't that why they wear those red jerseys? Something doesn't add up.

There is incidental contact in practices and knee and hips can be strained by twisting or a seemingly innocent bump. As well he's getting older and as we know things don't always move like they used to so one misstep could cause pain.
I hope it's not another chronic issue the Offense has to deal with.
