It was the right thing to do. The last thing that the NFL wants is to have a couple of people die getting to/from the stadium:

The weather forecast for Sunday in Buffalo was pretty wild -- there are serious snow and wind gusts, enough that people questioned if the NFL would move the game to a different location, while the Bills called for folks to dig out the stadium for $20 an hour.

Well, the location didn't move. But the date did: New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the game will be postponed to Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET. In addition, she said there would be a full travel ban in Erie County on Saturday night at 9 p.m.

They can’t play if they can’t get to the stadium or can’t get home because of the travel ban.

I think the governor waited until the league postponed the game before she instituted the travel ban. Her and the league were in communication with each other, so it might have been the governor who forced the NFL's hand.

But who ever decision it was, it was the right call. You always want to error on the side of safety.
