Adams out, Witherspoon doubtful for opener

No surprise about Adams. He's only been participating in walk-throughs in practice, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's not a full go until Week 4. I'm more concerned about Witherspoon. Hamstring injuries are tricky and can linger.

They should have put Adams on the PUP list and added another body to the team. That would give us 4 weeks to see others play but up to 7 weeks to adjust the roster all told if I remember the rules correctly.

Yeah, they should have waited to activate him as he's almost certainly not going to be available in Week 2 and if he does play in Weeks 3 and 4, it's most likely going to be very limited anyway. Maybe it's just my suspicious mind getting to me, but I get the sense that Pete is going way out of his way to salvage what to this point has been one of the worst trades/signings in team history and he's making moves he'd otherwise not consider doing.

I agree, sounds like they miss judged his recovery and should have left him on the PUP list and waited till he was a full go. However, it will be nice to see what we have in J Love, and rookie Jerrick Reed

time to get rid of Adams, he is just far to fragile.

It's probably not happening until next season. If we were to cut him this year, we'd have to absorb a $23M cap hit. Pete and John painted themselves into a corner with that contract they gave him, and it's going to take another 9 months for it to dry.

If it works out that he's expendable next year (it would seem by their actions that injury is the only reason they would cut ties) it would be best to designate him a post June 1st cut to spread the remaining Cap hit over 2 years.

I read an article that talked about Kupp and his hamstring injury and that they're worried because it happened at the beginning of August and he had a setback. So how bad is the Witherspoon injury as he's been dealing with it since before the Draft and hasn't been 100% yet? I sure hope he's been seeing some specialists about what is causing his problems. Maybe that's why he wanted his signing bonus up front?

My understanding is that if he's a post June 1st cut that we could either absorb a $14m cap hit in one season or a $7m hit spread over two seasons.

I read something similar about Kupp, that they are concerned that he might be out for the season.
Your comment about Witherspoon reminds me of the Brian Bosworth incident, where it was speculated that he knew that he had a chronic shoulder injury/damage and that his career was likely to be very short, hence his insistence on a guaranteed contract.

From the tin foil hat perspective, it makes sense for him to hold out for more up front money.
I really don't know if it's a factor, but, yeah it does have echoes of the Bosworth era.

According to an article I read, Witherspoon is practicing, but it's doubtful that he will play in the opener.
I hope he's completely healed before he gets on the field.
