The deadline to do so is May 1st, and Brooks is still recovering from ACL surgery and is not expected to be ready until late in the 2023 season.

Since the addition of the 5th year option for first round draft picks in the 2011 CBA, for one reason or another, we have yet to pick up the 5th year on any player that we drafted. We did pick up Noah Fant's 5th year last season, but he was drafted by Denver.

Picking up Brooks' 5th year option would guarantee him a salary of $12.7M, so it's unlikely that we'll exercise that option.

There's an article on PFT about Washington and Chase Young where Rivera says picking up his 5th year option depends upon Young's health. I would expect us to be looking at it in a similar way.
So at this point, probably not, but you never know about our FO.

According to The Athletic, since 2011, we are the only team that has yet to pick up the fifth year option on a first round draft pick. The next worst percentage is the Cleveland Browns at 32% followed by the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders at 33%. The Chicago Bears check in next at 38%. That doesn't bode well for our drafting over the past 12 years, at least as it applies to first round draft picks.

I think Brooks is a keeper if he wasnt injured all the time. Our history is replete with players that just had the injury bug. Anthony Simmons and Marcus Tubbs just to name a few.
