Niners Game

Big game on a short week. The Niners are arguably playing the best football in the league right now. They have a lights out defense and a surprisingly potent offense. We all know how their quarterback situation has evolved, that they are now going with their 3rd string QB, "Mr. Irrelevant", last pick of the 2022 draft and who just got through shellacking the GOAT in his first start. Christian McCaffery, a.k.a. "CMC", has worked out well for the Niners, giving them a 3 down back that can both run between the tackles and catch passes as well as any WR. On defense, Nick Bosa is having a DMVP season.

As far as our own situation goes, our RB status is like the Niners' QB travesty. No word yet on who's going to be available, Walker, Dallas, both, or neither. We've lost 3 of our past 4 games, for reasons that have been well discussed. Not good timing to be on a short week with our running back corps so dinged up.

Expect a good number of Niners fans in our nest. This recent trend, losing our last two home games, has undoubtedly put a damper on a team that has yet to be fully accepted by the 12's.

My prediction is 31-17 Niners. It's hard to imagine how we're going to compete with these guys.

Walker goes. Geno goes off. D is enough.
Both teams are beat up but their QB has an oblique injury, Samuel likely out or very limited. With their skill people and coach there will likely be somewhat less emphasis on running every down. I would rather get beat with the pass than the run again. Short week for both teams. Should be bitterly cold in seattle.
We've not done well as a favorite lately. This is a 2022 Hawks team type of game. Dead and buried. No chance
We have a chance. Everyone does this year.
SHOCK THE WORLD BABY!!!
31-25 Hawks

Sounds like Al Woods might not play:

The Seattle Seahawks lost a defensive lineman Sunday afternoon against the Carolina Panthers when nose tackle Al Woods suffered what was believed to be a heel injury. Woods left the game in the second quarter and was unable to return.

Coach Pete Carroll was able to provide an update on Woods’ status during his afternoon press conference on Monday.

“He has a sore Achilles today,” Carroll told reporters.” It looks like, from what we can tell, it’s somewhat of an old injury, but it’s not the Achilles rupture type of thing. He has a sore Achilles today, so we will need to see what happens, we will need to see how it goes this week.”

Woods was listed as a non-participant in Monday’s estimated practice report.

It must be tough for big guys like him at 35 to play Thursdays anyway. And old injuries or new limits on playing or practicing become more pronounced.
It won't help defending the run game if he can't play so i would expect every team to focus on the run game more until we can consistently shut it down.

I heard Woods described as the only guy we have that is right for a 3-He and Harris are probably our most powerful interior guys and both missed most of last game.
I hate the 3 4. stupid. Especially with this roster.

When you have a philosophy change, you have to have the players that fit what you want to do.
With the continuing problems, maybe we just don't have the players (who although talented) that fit what we want to do on Defense.

I heard Pete last Monday say “ we have to make the players fit the scheme “ . Not entirely sure what he meant . They haven’t other than 4 games and parts of a few others.

The only reason I give us some small chance of winning is because the 49ers don't have a good QB and Pete is very good against rookie QBs.

The 49ers defense is vicious. If we can't run against teams like the Panthers or Raiders, then the chances we can run against the 49ers is slim. This is a division game. If the 49ers beat us, they secure the division and end any chance by Seattle. So they have a lot of play for.

This is as close to a playoff game as Seattle is going to get. So we'll see if Geno and the Offense can get the job done as the defense don't have the talent to do the job. The 49ers just rag-dolled the Buccs. They're coming in here looking to end any ideas we have of winning the division or go to the playoffs. Their defense will likely be amped up to destroy us.

In general we own the Niners, the Niners own the Rams and the Rams own us. But we beat the Rams in LA this year so that paradigm may be blown so who knows.

The 49ers crushed us in Frisco. But Jimmie G was QB and Deebo Samuel was in. Now they have Purdy and no Samuel this week. Just that brutal defense.

I wouldn't make that assumption. Even if we lose to the Niners, if we win 2 of our last 3 games vs. KC, the Jets, and the Rams, we'd finish 9-8, which might be good enough to get us in. However, if your comment is regarding a home game, then you're probably correct, as we'd likely get a 6th or 7th seed and virtually no chance of hosting a home playoff game.

The Niners didn't have CMC when they beat us earlier this season. He could be the key for them.

Looks like the Niners are 3.5 pt favorites. I would not bet on the Hawks this game unless I got 20 pts. I can just see Mcaffery going wild.

Niners 35
Sea 12

Yea, 3.5 is surprisingly low, and I'd take the Niners in a heartbeat. I would have guessed the line would have opened with the Niners favored by at least 7.

Brock Purdy played exceptionally well in relief when Garropolo was hurt , great stats .

He was almost perfect vs Tampa with 2 passing TDs and a rushing TD.

He suffered an oblique injury on a tackle on his second drive which was mrid Monday but played most of the game . His dad was crying in the stands .
Not sure where you heard he’s not good . Wyman thinks they can win it all with him , very impressed . We can hope he throws us a couple but if we can’t stop the run he will kill us . There’s 3 feel good qb stories in the division and a major bummer in AZ.

Good isn't the best choice of words. Unproven more like it. The more tape teams get, the better than can defend against him. Except the Seahawks; the 49ers can just hand if off 90% of the time and let their defense pick up the rest, so it won't matter how Purdy plays.

Purdy so far does look competent enough to let a stacked team carry him.

Yeah it’s his 3rd appearance in the show and everyone’s poring over the film to see what his weaknesses are . But I’ve dug a bit . This kid turned down Nick Saban to go to Iowa state where he tied or broke 32 school records . He’s plucky , not the biggest or strongest but very smart . Montana thinks he can win it all . Let’s see . I hope we wreck him .

That definitely doesn't make it better for us given our run defense. Going to take a real gut check by this team to compete with the 49ers in a division game where both teams have something to play for: us to keep our playoff hopes alive and them to take the division and force us into a wild card position at best.

I’m almost thinking McCaffrey is a shiny object that may keep Shanny from pounding it down our throat . I’d almost rather have us dealing with him then getting railed for 60 minutes by some god damn no name .

Line is actually down to 3 now. Purdy listed as questionable. Deebow out. They lost a starting CB for the year Sunday. I dont put a lot of stock in the win over Tampa, at least the margin and neither does Vegas. ESPN matchup predictor has it almost even, 52% to 48% win probability. Surprising.
But stats dont play, vegas dont play.
I see it this way. Geno will be far better than week 2 as our offense was shut out. He was sacked 3 times and hit 9 more. He did complete 80% but threw a pick. The sliver of hope was crushed when Waldron gave the ball to Dee Jay to throw to the 9ers when Geno had just completed a pass to the 13 yard line. I recall people on this forum AFTER THE GAME justifying the decision to let a running back throw because we had checkdown charlie at QB and needed a spark.

Geno has played a few teams twice now. Saints 10 points last year, 32 this year . Rams 10 in a quarter last year.27 this year. Az 19 first time 31 second time. 9ers? Geno seems to learn from teams he plays or hes just been lucky or something.
I say he goes off despite getting rode hard and put away wet by the D, No mistakes 3 TD passes. KW111 is listed as full go which may be influencing the line in Vegas and Dee Jay is in . Not sure about Woods .
we get a rush TD and a FG. Purdy has a contusion in his oblique which is a core injury that can affect velocity and accuracy. It reportedly tightened up after the game . I say he throws us one. Our D does enough. Gotta get some hits on him.
Seahawks 31
9ers 25

I'm leaning towards a Seahawks upset myself. I got a thing for 3 point home dogs in general and I can't ignore that just because the dog is mine.

I'd like to see an upset. If our running game were still going strong, I'd feel like we could upset this wounded 49ers team. Normally, there is no way a 49ers team playing their third string QB and absent one of their best offensive players could take us. But our run game seems hobbled and if we go to a pass heavy offense, Bosa is going to be either getting the pressure himself or drawing so much blocking that others will bring the pain on our passing offense.

If the 49ers weren't so injured on offense, I wouldn't give us much of a chance. Given the 49ers are playing a 3rd string QB or worse and missing Deebo Samuel, this has to be at least a coin flip.

I hope Bosa doesn't turn Geno into a battered sack of potatoes by the end of the game.

Ken Walker is full go . They haven’t surrendered more than 61 yards to any back . We haven’t had a run threat in a month . As for Geno remember he was sacked 13 times in 13 quarters last year and completed 73% of his passes . Frisco knocked him around and he still completed 80%. Geno is not rattled by getting hit .
