Hawktawk gets his credit: The Resurrection of Geno Smith

Postby Aseahawkfan » Sun Oct 30, 2022 9:46 pm

I'll give Hawktawk his credit for seeing Geno Smiths' turnaround. I never thought I'd see it, but Geno Smith is reborn. It's eight games in against good and bad defenses and he's stepped up to lead this team to 5-3 with two rookie tackles. He's running on the offense at a pro bowl level. The only hoop he has left to jump through is a 4th quarter win in a tight game. The only defense to crush him was Frisco and they are crushing lots of teams.

There's your credit for the Geno Smith call. No idea if it will last past this year or we'll do much in the playoffs with him if we make it, but he's reborn a Pro Bowl QB in these first eight games.

Geno does not suck. He's doing damn well.

Now I will knock on wood to ensure I do not curse Geno with this support.

Thanks Asea . The credit goes to Pete and his staff for digging him out of the dumpster and developing him
. My only credit is being enough of an analyst to have seen muliple examples ? Multiple games of solid play , starter quality . I never dreamed he’d be described as a fringe MVP candidate at mid season . I thought he played great with no run game , getting knocked around , laid out and didn’t blink. Loved him consoling Tyler then going right back to him. We’re fortunate at the position . I’m glad I saw what I thought I did . Looking forward to him getting 4 quarters against the team I noticed his transformation against . Rams . 4 more vs the 9 ers . We can win our division with this team regardless of the whiners getting mcccaffrey .

Geno has played much better than I expected as well. I thought he would be the same old Geno we have seen with a big play here or there but make the bad interception to lose or at least stop us from winning at the end.
I'm still shocked that Pete has allowed this Offense to open up like it has considering the inexperience in the coaching on Offense. That he put the brakes on Schottenheimer and maybe Bevell, too but let a real young OC
change his offensive philosophy is stunning to me. I'm still waiting for the game where there are multiple INT's to see how Pete reacts, though. I'm sure that day will happen as it does for all QBs including some of the best ever.

I have a little bit of crow to eat too because I was under impression Russ was choosing not to throw in the short middle etc . Listening to Huard a few weeks ago he said it looks like they are gaining enough confidence in Geno to start opening up some things to him from a standpoint of route calls and audibles then Russ was given . It had to be a trust issue . These stats are a few weeks old so I have to check but Geno is throwing more in the middle then Russ did but Russ is throwing in the middle more than Geno . The results speak for themselves . The credit is due to Pete and obviously Geno for busting his tail for 5 years . I’ve never seen a 3 player post game QB interview at the podium . When Michelle Tafoya said prior to that Pittsburgh game “ he is universally loved by his teammates “ I had as hard a time buying that from a guy who got his jaw broke by a teammate as his completion % vs the Rams . It’s another area of growth . They do seem to love the guy . I gotta say too , kind of lost in another amazing TD from K9 was Geno handing it off and curling back and putting a nice chip block on a defender . He didn’t just get in the way . Guys like playing with a guy like that .
This team is dangerous .

I am really enjoying this Geno led offense that we have been seeing recently. He is playing very well and, combined with a defensive resurgence could lead us to the playoffs.

We are currently the #3 seed in the conference . Entirely possible we make the playoffs . And win in them .
