Hawks-Broncos game in progress

Postby trents » Mon Sep 12, 2022 5:48 pm

Geno looks sharp but the Hawk defense is giving up big chuncks and getting pushed around at the LOS, something we saw in preseason as well.

Mixed results for sure. Geno has looked good, but he got away with murder throwing late while running to his left. Denver has been getting some pressure on him. But the defense sucks, especially the run defense. We've let them out of jail twice.

Now it looks like Adams is hurt. Geez...Knee injury. That didn't take long.

Yeah, Geno has been nearly flawless. Penny has run the ball well. Offense hasn't had to punt yet.

Defense is hurting, though. As well as the offense and Geno have played, Denver has outgained us and will receive the ball to start the 2nd half. We're giving up nearly 7 yards per rushing attempt.

Talk about getting away with murder, both Adams and Diggs dropped Russ balls in their bread baskets. Geno has been more accurate. I like how he steps up when pressured instead of trying to spin out.

Geno hasn't taken a shot downfield yet. All short and medium stuff.

Plus there was a situation where Russell just chucked the ball up to avoid a sack.

What a half eh? Hawktawk has got to be having the time of his life! Geno has been outplaying Russ so far and our defense is better than expected so far too. Too bad about Adams, I truly feel sorry for the guy. Can't wait for the second half!

I will say I was embarrassed about the classless reception we gave Russ when he first took the field, but have no problem with anything after the opening whistle.

They've been throwing short to Metcalf, trying to get him in open space like he's Tyreek Hill or something. IMO that's not his strong suit. Get the ball downfield where his size and speed can be taken advantage of.

Geno is running a hyper-efficient conservative offense. I'll take it as we're winning.

These defenses are starting off behind like every year since the changes to preseason and contact during practice. Defenses need to hit to get good. We won't see good defense likely until about game 5 or so.

This is where we see what kind of coach Hackett is. Can he make adjustments to beat Pete and the Seahawks?

Why do we keep throwing the ball short to Metcalf on these little bubble screen-type passes? He's not a fart in the skillet receiver.

Because Pete likes to run a hyper-conservative offense with low turnovers?

I don't care what any fan or any expert or anyone says, Pete is selling out to win this game. After this game, everything is going to be mortal again. But for this one game, Seattle is stepping above and beyond to win. Pete wants this badly.

We'll see who will win the fourth quarter. Geno knows Pete wants this game and he is being directly compared to Russ. We're seeing his best game.

Seattle's defensive backs have done a great job in the red zone. Wilson has had all kinds of time to get off a pass for the go ahead TD but his receivers are covered. The secondary is obviously the strength of the D. D line is just not getting any push and Wilson's only real pressure has come from a few blitzes.

Woolen is looking impressive for 5th round rookie. Sherm reborn. Defense looks real aggressive.

Hold on! Wait a minute! Did you see that measurement where they gave the Denver receiver a first down even though there looked like about an inch of air between the yard marker pole and the ball's nose? What's going on there?

Holy chit! Great win for the Hawks, but if I'm Russell, I'm not too happy. They don't trust him to gain 5 yards on 4th down and instead try a near record 64 yard FG?

There's still a ton of problems to fix with that defense, but it's sure easier doing it when you're 1-0 than when you're 0-1.

Sure but the intensity they showed throughout the game I havent seen from this defense for a long time. Stopping them 3 times inside the 10, epic. The problem is we have seen this before, and then we lay an egg. The most shocking thing is how we were able to keep out Denver's defense the entire first half. We were also lucky like the taunting penalty was chump. The real test come in 6 days on the road.

Hackett screwed that pooch for us! Russ has to love that he'd rather take a 1 in 8 FG chance (his kicker's record from 60+) than let him try to convert a 4th and 5 with 30+ seconds left. Glad Russ didn't get the chance myself.

Great win!

That's been our mode of operation in recent years on D: bend but don't break. At least it worked tonight, with a lot of luck. But yes, the defense played hard for all 60 minutes. I've got to give them that.

Geno played well within the system. He will take some longer shots I’m sure. If the line can continue to keep him mostly clean like tonight, he knows enough how to pick the right matchups. His arm looks accurate enough, even though I didn’t like that cross body throw. We got lucky to get a penalty call there.

All in all, isn’t this what Pete said to expect? Run the ball, play defense. Geno doesn’t have to be the hero. He never did have to be the hero.

On the Denver side, I’d be pissed at the decision to kick at the end instead of putting the ball in Russ’ hands. Not that he would have delivered, but it showed a lack of confidence in him, inadvertently or not.

I will have to say that Russ W. still is quite elusive when flushed out of the pocket. He hasn't lost much of that yet.

Geno will be the weak link all year. He's a careful QB that Pete is going to keep the training wheels on. At the end of the game Pete was playing not to lose, fortunately Russ didn't have his magic today.

Seahawks are moving in the right direction.

Russ didn't have the opportunity to show his magic today. His coach took it away from him. There was plenty of time left on the clock at fourth and five initially. Russ could have gotten the first down without a problem I'm thinking since the Hawks were in prevent coverage. He could have executed three plays easy in that amount of time and gotten 15 yards closer for his FG kicker. We have the Denver head coach to thank as much for that win as we do how the Hawks played. It was an inexplicable decision. Did anyone have opportunity to hear Hackett's post game pressor remarks and his explanation for that call? I have not but I'm trying to imagine what I would say if I were in his shoes.

Russ and Hackett lost their balls. Russ don't have Pete building up his confidence any more or willing to take big chances.

Totally disagree. He is a weak link only you're expecting the QB position to win games for us. I don't think that is the case, and Pete has said so. Geno just has to play within the system, which means hand the ball off, and take care of the football when he does sling it. He can do that. He was never going to be the hero, so he's well within his capabilities.

Oh come on guy, Russ is every bit as courageous as always, I am getting so tired of fans slamming Russ!! Pete without Russ, Fired, Fired, and 14-18 with Matt Flynn at QB! The booing today pissed me off! Pete tried to trade him, and he held his mud for 4 years!! I am almost off as a Hawks fan over this whole deal, and I have been one for 46 years, good and bad! Russ goes into the Ring of Honor, will they boo him then?? Or no ROH, disband the ROH if thats the case!! The stupider thing was the Browns turning the used car salesman down, and taking Baker Mayfield, how the flock did that work out for them ASHF!!! We b**** about players having no loyalty and they have no memory of Russ holding our only trophy, WHICH WE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD WITHOUT HIM!! SO SCREW THEM ALL!!
