Let's talk about some of the good. What rookies impressed you? What rookies surprised you? Basically, let's discuss the rooks.

Charles Cross: Seems every bit as good as advertised. He had a tough second game with the penalties, but we all know the Seattle noise takes some getting used to on offense and defense. He's what you expect of a top 10 tackle pick.

Abe Lucas: I'm surprised this guy was a third round pick. Dude seems big and brutal. I'm surprised by how well he seems to have taken to the NFL. Be interesting to see him against starting competition, but so far this dude looks like a third round steal of a tackle.

Coby Bryant: Looks very polished for a 5th round CB. I think he will make it as at least a depth player with upside being NFL starting CB with a Pro Bowl or two over a long career. He seems very solid with good fundamentals.

My buddy says Myles Adams looked good, but I can't get excited as he seemed to mostly play against scrub O-line guys. We all know DT is a hard position to measure until the starting lines show up as the drop off from a starting O-line or D-line to a 2nd or 3rd stringer is usually big drop off. Love to see this kid make it though. We could use a quality pass rushing DT.

He's not a rookie, but I loved how Michael Jackson played. I also thought that Boye Mafe has showed some huge promise.

Lucas surprised me with his run blocking. It will be interesting to see if he can sustain it against other team's #1's. Sometimes it's hard to tell how good these guys are when all we see of them is a handful of meaningless preseason games against backups and bubble players.

It’s a potential championship roster down the road . I have to say a majority of the rookies but Lucas has 5 pancake blocks already . We will run on everyone with this line . We WILL start two rook tackles and be competetive immediately . If only we had a real qb

Lucas seems to understand his responsibilities which is rare for a rookie. His run blocking shouldn't be a surprise - he was considered one of the better run blockers in college but his pass pro has been good so far.
Going against current Pro Bowl and All Pro players this year will mean they are going to learn some big lessons but they should have a bright future or at least be good OL for the next 10 years. Cross got beat more than
Lucas and isn't as good a run blocker where he sometimes looked lost after the initial contact or seemingly not sure who or where his responsibility was on the field. Experience should fix that.
Mafe flashed in a couple of games but seemed to get lost in the shuffle a lot. Maybe because he had to share time on the field with others he didn't really get a chance to get some consistency but his speed and quickness
is there which is a big thing for OLB/DE's.
The rookie DBs look to have some promise. They haven't gone against the best Offenses yet and there are some big mistakes in their future, but they seem like they are the types that can learn and overcome them.

The disappointments were some of the rookie WRs who seemed to not be able to catch. How can they dominate in College but not be able to catch in the NFL?
And the other disappointment is Walker's hernia. Injuries and such can't be helped but it would have been good to see what he can do. Hopefully he comes back 100% and can contribute in a big way later this year.

Here's my take, pretty much agree with ASF here.

Cross had a good camp, although the penalties in the 2nd game we should not dismiss. He may have bad moments against quality edge rushers. I think his footwork is solid. I wasn't crazy about the choice when he was drafted but I'm warming up to him.

Love Abe Lucas. Great value in the 3rd round. Solid camp and pre season games. Rob Staton had him in the first round in a lot of his mocks. I read a comment from a scout saying Lucas may not be drafted as high as he should because of poor play by recent WSU lineman in the NFL. I assume he meant Andre Dillard and to a lesser extent, Joe Dahl and Cole Madison

I want to like Coby Bryant more than I really do. Seems like a smart player but lacks elite size and athleticism, at least to my eye anyway. I think his ceiling is an average starter.

Unfortunately, injuries to Mafe, Kenneth Walker and Tyreke Smith make it hard to evaluate. Mafe had a good game against Pittsburgh, then got hurt. Walker didn't show much, I really was expecting more from him in that first game. I liked him a lot in college, I think he will be fine.

Tariq Woolen is VERY intriguing, great size, elite athleticism, green as grass. Stash him on the back end of the 53 and hope he develops.

I didn't see anything special in Bo Melton or Dareke Young. Dropped passes hurt them both. Seems like all the young WR's dropped passes this preseason.
