Ten Bust/Bubble Final Roster Cuts

This year will probably see some unexpected names disappear from our final 53 man roster. The Dallas game represents a "last chance" for many ...with the practice reps shifting to the "top 40" of the roster. I have listed ten candidates as potential busts (roster cuts) and their "bubble" competition (still with possibly being cuts themselves):
1) Nickel/Dime candidates (Bust) Marquise Blair/ (Bubble) Michael Jackson
2) LB depth/ST (Bust) Nick Bellore/ (bubble) Vi Jones
3) Potential WR3 (Bust) Freddie Swain/ (Bubble) Marquise Goodwin
4) Safety Depth/Dime (Bust) Ryan Neal/ (Bubble) Josh Jones
5) Rotational DL Interior (Bust) L.J. Collier/ (Bubble) Myles Adams
6) Nickel Back/Corner depth (Bust) Justin Coleman/ (Bubble) John Reid
7) OL Interior depth (Bust) Kyle Fuller/ (Bubble) Dakoda Shepley
8) WR4/WR5 (Bust) Penny Hart/ (Bubble) Bo Melton
9) WR5/WR6 (Bust) JJ Arcega-Whiteside/ (Bubble) Dareke Young
10) LB Depth (Bust) Tanner Muse/ (Bubble) Aaron Donkor
Half of these combos may stay or they all might be "Painful" cuts but the point is many noticeable names are likely to see Pink Slips the Tuesday following our Pre-season finale against Dallas.

It's quite possible you are right.
Pete puts a lot of stock in practices and we never see or hear much about them so we will have to wait and see, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were some unexpected cuts we don't see coming.

Correct in that most evaluation is done during practice, not the preseason games.
Last game aside, Blair has shown he can play, and has looked pretty good in camp - although the injury bug stopped him two years in a row. Although some have him as a NB, the Seahawks have Blair listed as a safety, they traded Amadi, and I think he beats out Joey Blount. Jackson is a CB behind Woolen.
And I'm with you, I'm tired of Freddy Swain, but I think he may stay until Eskridge comes back, and Hart may make it.

So you think that they're going to cut Bellore, the Swiss army knife? I know he's looked terrible on defense, but he's a very good special teamer.
It's going to be a hard pill to swallow when they have to cut LJ Collier. They've made a lot of those early round reach picks that, for one reason or another, didn't work out.

Swain has 4 50 plus yard house calls but hasn’t looked good this preseason .

There is some insight from looking at the roster and seeing how many bodies are trying for various positions. Currently the team has 15 linebackers (and not many answers), 12 wide receivers, and 17 defensive backs. On the other hand, along with the 3 QBs, we have 4 tight ends, and 8 defensive linemen. Between those extremes, we have 6 running backs (not counting FB), and 13 offensive linemen.
Personally, I have some young players in mind that show promise. Mainly, the DL Adams (#95) who showed some ability to rush the passer from the tackle position, and Cade Johnson the WR who seems to have some Lockett genes, and Michael Jackson DB who probably has no shot but seems to make plays.
Referencing past seasons, the team has used 2-3 QBs, 5-6 RBs, 5-6 WRs, 3 TEs, and 8-9 OL on offense. On defense history may not hold as much with the changes in the coaching staff, but we are looking at 5-7 DL, 6-7 LBs, and 8-9 DBs.
Of our draft picks, the two WRs taken late Young and Melton have not separated themselves and may not make it. We haven't seen much of Tyreke Smith (round 5) the linebacker, but with the competition there being pretty weak, he seems a lock. All the rest seem stellar.

Wasn’t Bo Melton almost half of Locks yardage on a run after a 1 yard out ? Guy looked explosive there but it’s a tough receiver room to crack .

Melton's issue has been drops, not all have been his fault, but dropped in the Bears game that should have been a TD. Hands has to be #1 in my opinion, you don't have to be the biggest or the fastest, but you need to be a possession guy and make the tough catches.

Hands and route running are at the top of the pyramid for a WR. Size and speed are down the list.

Pete did single out Kevin Kassis today as doing an outstanding job in camp and great hands.
