It's everywhere now...looks like it's the real deal, and a done deal.
Get excited guys, this is good for the teams chances to repeat over the next four years, because he's so versatile.
Now let's hope they go ahead and re-up Cliff Avril while they are at it.
Oh and of course, Thomas and Sherman!!!!
Those three guys ought to be priorities 1a 1b and 1c IMO. Thomas, Sherman and then Cliff. It was the combination of Cliff and Michael up front in our version of the NASCAR package that was so lethal, it would be wise to keep it together.

That is the best news we could have heard today! 4 years at a little over 8 mil annually! Depending on how it is structured we should still be able to at least extend ET this off-season and add an OL or two. Now lets see where Tate comes in contract wise. I was hoping we could do all that without letting Clem go, but after giving Johnson and Baldwin about 5 mil combined (at least) then we probably will have to cut Clem to realistic do both ET and Tate. By my calculations we had about 14 mil before Bennett, so now were sitting at about 6 mil. About 2 of that has to go to rookies so that only realistically leaves us with about 4 mill at this point. Probably means the end of Clem, at least at this contract.

It might mean the end of Clemons, and if so, I'm OK with it because Clemons is on the wrong side of 30, and getting paid serious jack. He gave us some OUTSTANDING seasons, and if he does get cut, I'll always be glad he got a ring with us first, because he's EARNED IT!
Still, he's replaceable...we could get Jared Allen who is about the same age, but is more talented, at cheaper price than what we are paying Clem, so really there's not much reason not to.
That's NOT a knock on Clem though! I'll only ever say good things about him and what he did for this team.

WOW!!!
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/10/bennett-turned-down-more-money-from-two-other-teams/

PFT says he took less money than what two other teams were offering...I guess it was Costco after all? LOL! Craziness, if those numbers are accurate, we just got a HUGE FREAKING BARGAIN!!!!!

I read 4 yrs 28.5 ( or just over 7 million a yr) wow that surprises me if it is accurate. Anyone got the actual figures? Just going off what ESPN is reporting, if he took less than 8 a year, what a f-ing good deal for Seattle, most estimated over 10 a season....

PFT says the following:

"Bennett will make $28.5 million over four years. He gets $10 million in 2014, $16 million through the first two years, and $21 million over three.

Of the total, $16 million is guaranteed. It’s unclear how much is fully guaranteed beyond the first year."

I read 4 years, not three, with the bulk the first season (10 million) then progressively down with a peak in year 4 at 7.5...

Ooops, read three in your post, sorry.

BTW it is entirely possible that, rather than cutting Clemons, he might be enticed to just restructure instead...it's very possible, maybe even more possible now with Bennett re-signing and giving a Costco discount.
Imagine the possibilities if that were to happen. Remember that last year Clem was still recovering from the big injury, and we didn't really get to see Clem look like Clem until the Superbowl.

I thought I read Blount (ESPN.com) said 4 years $34M.

[edit- just saw that in another thread here, too]

That was a very early tweet from Clayton, about 1/2 hour later these started circulating:

$28.5 million deal, with $16 million guaranteed. Bennett will make $10 million in the first year, $6 million in the second year, $5 million in the third year and $7.5 million in the final year.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10583064/michael-bennett-re-signs-seattle-seahawks

$28.5 million contract that included $16 million in guarantees, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports

http://www.guampdn.com/usatoday/article/6263837&usatref=sportsmod

A source has since confirmed to the Times that these are the contract details for Bennett: $28.5 million over four years with $10 million guaranteed in 2014 and $16 million guaranteed total

Interesting approach to structuring the contract.

Bennett got a "Franchise Tag Amount" of $10 Million for this year and a lot less annually for the next two years.

Is Illinois State tax rate over 10%? Damn... cause he took 4m less to sign with the Hawks than it was reported he could of had with Chi town.
(7.5 mill vs 8.5m over 4 years. That's a COSTCO discount or about 12% a year.

I also think you have to look at the signing bonus as a factor. If we gave him a lot this year it also sets us up for the future years.

Also, they just resigned one of the Big Mac triplets. (McCoy) Now, get the other Big Mac's resigned and Houschka and I'll be a happy camper.

Tate? Not sure he's worth 5m a year...

Have to say, the way they structure the contract works out for both parties involved splendidly.

Good deal.

I hope we're able to do the same with Avril when it's time.

Good point. Washington is one of only 4 states with NFL teams (the others being Texas, Tennessee, and Florida) that do not have a state income tax. Just one more reason for me to vote no against implementation of a state income tax (as if I needed another reason).

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Fair price for what he did for us and will hopefully continue to do. 2014 is already shaping up nicely.
