Good player, but we've got way too much invested in the Safety position.

He was our best defensive player last year. I agree that we have too much tied up in our safeties, but if Adams has another down year and I have to choose between him and Diggs I take Diggs 100% of the time. Just because we made a mistake on Adams doesn't mean we don't sign Diggs.

This.

More evidence that Pete feels that we're not rebuilding, that we're reloading. Diggs might have played well enough to deserve this contract, but re-signing him isn't what's going to get us back to the Super Bowl.

At least it didn't cost us draft picks and there could be an out for the last year of the deal.

Shouldn't we keep a good player? He was the best player on our D last year. PC needs a Free Safety who can cover the whole field. He needed ET and he needs Diggs. If it comes down to it in two years we can cut Adams and keep Diggs. I understand not wanting to put too much money into one position, but letting a guy like Diggs walk doesn't make sense. He is getting like 13 mil/year which is probably a little underpaid for a pro-bowl safety. If we are re-building it is not crazy to think we could be competing in 3 years and Diggs would still be on the team. Plus we have $130 million in cap space next year. Personally I think that $13 mill is well spent.

It's an unconventional approach, paying about $30M for the Safety position, but I understand the
desire to re-sign him. After all we have to have ONE Safety that can actually make a play on the ball.

Edit: The other concern is the 4 or 5 Million might have gone to a FA instead. But that's the choices they are making.
I wonder how much input Hurtt and Desai have in these signings.

Then get rid of Adams. The two highest paid players on our defense are going to be safeties, and I don't think that's a formula for success.

so far it doesn't look like a rebuild signing the same defenders from last year. Woods and Sydney Jones are also signed. They are betting on Hurt

If you’re going to let them all go, you gotta have a better/cheaper option. Otherwise, you try and keep guys you like. Apparently, they feel these guys fit.

Too much dead money, their combined cap this will probably only be 15 million. You can get rid of him in two years though, which is what I would do unless he starts playing like a defensive MVP. You can't look at the mistake in Adams and let it preclude you from signing Diggs. Is Diggs at 13 mil/year a good contract. I think the answer is yes. We have also seen how important a good- Pro Bowl caliber safety is to PC's defense.

A health Diggs does more to help the pass defense than a healthy Jamal Adams. I'm ok with it if he can make it back healthy.
