Pacific NW sports fan blues

The Trailblazers have had a fire sale and are essentially losing as many games as possible to improve their draft position.

MLB has moved the start of the season back two weeks so far and no opening season date seems to be in sight because of the lockout and stalled negotiations.

The Seahawks just got rid of their two top players.

I've got the sports fan blues right now. Thank goodness March madness is almost here!

At least the time leading up to and during the draft this year will be interesting.
It seems to me that if the FO blow it with the accumulated picks this year they may not be
around in a couple of years.

It’ll be interesting to see what they do with the QB position
and if they take one relatively early in this draft or trade down and try to get more higher
picks next year to give them the ammo to move up in a better QB draft year.

I’m hoping they are better team builders than they are at maintaining a good team.
It will mean getting back to the philosophy they had at the beginning.

The MLB thing really irks me. The M's should be exciting this year and I'm really looking forward the season. Both sides need to get their heads out of there arses before they lose fans again. I don't even read about the lockout and negotiations anymore, I just want baseball.

At least we have Gonzaga over here on the east side. I don't think they are as good as last year, but they are always fun to watch. Congrats to the girls team for knocking off BYU 2 days ago in the WCC finals. BYU beat them twice in the regular season.

I love draft season, I spend way too much time reading scouting reports and watching film.

Yeah, and my annual March Madness bracket draft is a no go as our organizer unwittingly took off on vacation during the few days between Selection Sunday and the start of the tourney during which our draft has to occur. In years prior, we'd get together at a bar and bid on teams until all 68 were gone, a process that takes several hours. But at least Gonzaga is ranked #1 and should make a strong run at the title again.

I've been following the Sounders pretty intensely for the past 10+ years. I didn't get into soccer until the 2006 World Cup when I became friends with a few soccer fans. I watched just for the hell of it and was amazed at how much I liked watching commercial-free sports. You get about 50 minutes straight, 15 minute break, then 50 more minutes. Unless it's a tournament, games are guaranteed to be over in about 2 hours. Find a bar near you that shows the games and see if you like the atmosphere. Plus, the Sounders are really good. The season is just starting and takes up the football offseason perfectly.

I've tried to get into both soccer and hockey and I just can't get myself interested. Soccer didn't even exist as an American sport when I was in high school. We played it once in high school PE as a sort of experiment with different sports like rugby, volleyball, badminton, et al. One of my best friends is a former professional soccer player, played for Romania's national team, and even he can't get me interested. I'm only interested in the sports I played competitively in, ie football, basketball, and baseball.

I can't get into hockey and soccer either. I find them frustrating in the sense of too many empty trips up and down the rink/field. Not enough scoring . . . and the fact that I don't really know the rules doesn't help.

I'm becoming more and more disenchanted with pro FB, baseball and basketball. Too much emphasis on money and politics. Too many bad citizens. Too much self-centeredness. And although I'm not a soccer fan, from what I can tell via sports news outlets, it's just as bad as the big 3.

You have to see hockey live to understand how fast it is. Basketball is a total bore in comparison with too much scoring.
Knowing the rules and strategies is key to enjoying any new sport, so if you’re not prepared it could be confusing and
or frustrating or even unenjoyable.

I agree that there is too much scoring in Basketball, or I should say the NBA. The NBA has engineered the rules and the refereeing to accomplish that and the 3 point shot has taken much away from the fundamentals of the game IMO. There is much more attention to defense at the college level IMO.

Yeah, I get what you are saying about having to know the rules and strategies before you can appreciate any new sport. I'm just not willing to put in the time necessary to get there. I waste too much time watching the big three as it is.
