Saban laments the impact of NIL on recruiting.

Come on Nick! You trying to tell us no one foresaw this?

NIL will result in the strongest programs getting even stronger. They are the ones who are making the most money off of their football programs and have the most to offer blue chip recruits.

I was never in favor of NIL. It is irrelevant that the universities are making money off of their college recruits. In the old arrangement the student athletes were getting what they agreed to and what they needed to make money after graduating, either through professional sports contracts or other careers. Their education was the payment for their talents. Tuition, books, housing all paid for by the school.

If I am a college intern working for Microsoft and getting a stipend to live off of for the summer and happen to discover a vulnerability in Windows code that saves Microsoft millions of dollars, the company owes me nothing more than before. It isn't unfair. That's just how I see it.

I've been against college players earning money off their NIL simply because of the effect that it has on competitiveness. This simply reaffirms my opinion.

It's to be expected. Colleges making millions. College coaches getting paid millions. Players getting paid with college they have to work to maintain. They even sell merchandise based on the athletes. Ban that, then you have justification for not paying players. If you are going to make money off college players, you should pay them.

Screw that, I'm all for college players getting paid, always have been. So what if it effects "parity"! This ain't the NFL, there is no onus on the NCAA to ensure parity. The point is what's fair for the players not the TV viewing audience. This will benefit small college players and down depth chart players too; something is better than the nothing they're getting now. All party's will adapt.

I'm all for them making money at the Collegiate level. It's semi-pro football within a multi billion dollar business and the only ones
not making bank are those that could lose it all on any one play. If they can make money off their good fortune, so be it, good for them.

Saban said it's simple: The schools with the most money -- whether through alumni backing or other means -- "have the best chance to have the best team."

And this is different from how it was how?!

Like most of you, I'm not troubled. Surely we didn't expect a major change to finances in college sports to be perfect Year 1. I'm sure they'll need to refine the system, but I think they made a necessary step and it's better for the athletes.

I do not like NIL, I do not like the Portals, but the fault dear Brutus lies not in NFL, but in the NCAA. They could have stopped all of this 10 years ago. Given all the football players a stipend of 1,000-to 2k a month for movies and dating money. They could have left the dorms open for poor kids, and fed them during holidays and the off season. But Noooo, purist of CFB thought that was just horrible, so now CFB is going to be ruined in 10 years. Mark Emerett should be fired, and the schools should get together and come up with a whole new charter. Small Colleges are going to suffer big time.

Not only that but they didn't even allow help from boosters on compassionate grounds. There was a big story a few years ago of a player getting a plane ticket home because of a death in his family
disciplined for accepting money from a donor. I don't know if the rule was suspended because of the publicity or changed but it showed how much they didn't or don't care about the athletes that
make them so much money.
