Defense On Pace To Make History

Postby RiverDog » Fri Oct 08, 2021 12:27 pm

But not the type of history we'd like. It seems as if we're on pace to set a single season record for the most yards surrendered in a single season, and not just because it's a 17 game season:

The Seahawks’ defense isn’t stopping anyone this season, and is on pace to break an NFL record no team would want to break.

Seattle already ranked dead last in the NFL in total yards allowed heading into Thursday night’s loss to the Rams, then gave up 476 total yards to Los Angeles. Now the Seahawks have given up a total of 2,254 yards through five games.

That’s an average of 451 yards a game, and puts the Seahawks on pace to give up 7,664 yards in a 17-game season. That would be the most in NFL history.

The current record for the most yards allowed in a season is 7,042, set by the Saints in 2012. That Saints team gave up 440 yards a game over a 16-game season, so the Seahawks are actually allowing more yards per game than the record-setting team and aren’t only on pace to break the record because the season is now 17 games long.

Pretty embarrassing considering that Pete Carroll is supposed to be the best defensive mind of his era.

Fire Norton . You can’t fire 25 guys . They have played half zone half man numerous times . How does this happen in the nfl with coaches and players making millions . People are running wide open . Ever time a back cuts against the grain it’s a freeway . They are undisciplined , poorly coached , dreadfully schemed .

Fire Norton . Start there . Much like Bevfool PC is too loyal to staff . There are too many good players on this defense to be this terrible . Far from a throwaway roster . It’s sickening watching Quinn remake Dallas defense overnight with rookies to the point they could release Jaylen Smith while he is still a good player . Wtf .

Fire Norton . Did i mention we should can Norton ?    :x

The season is still young and there's a lot of football to be played, but if it ends like it's starting out, I'm going to be advocating that we fire more people than Ken Norton. We just got through throwing a DC on the stake when we fired Kris Richard. How many DC's are we going to sacrifice before we start holding our HC, that is supposed to be a defensive genius, accountable? Norton is not the one that signed off on the Adams trade.

Over in the Brand X forum that I frequent, someone started a poll with three options: Fire Pete now, fire him at the end of the season, or stick with him. So far, 75 people have responded, and the current results are: Fire him now 33%, fire him at the end of the season 55% (which is how I voted), and stick with him 11%. That's 89% that want to see him gone at some point this season. Unlike social media which has a bunch of cheerleader and rah rah types, these respondents are for the most part knowledgeable football people much like the participants in our forum.

Our team is regressing, has been for 7 years. Last year, we were duped into believing in fool's gold, and were swindled by a slick snake oil salesman.
