I dont see a post on this, the fact that Brown signed is bigger news to me than the Adams signing.

He's been practicing since the beginning of the week, but yes, this is great news, and I'm with Obi in that Brown is more important to our success than Adams. But Brown is still a free agent at the end of the season, so he really didn't 'sign', they simply tweaked his current deal.

Yeah they moved all his per game bonuses and some of his salary up front to make it guaranteed money. Good for him.

I still wish we'd have extended him a couple years though, but John seems comfortable with letting players reach unrestricted free agency before negotiating extensions. Maybe Pete sees something in Forsythe or Jones makes him hopeful for one of them to development into a good LT.

It's a difficult decision to give an older player like Brown a multi year deal. If he decides to pack it in then there's a fight over guarantees and future Cap implications.
I think it's the perfect time to sign contracts with voidable years - and maybe no bonus but a higher guarantee for injury. As well, Brown has chronic knee issues to
the point he didn't practice much last year so as to let him rest. That had to send up a warning flag for any contract negotiator. But I'm glad it's done for this year.

Edit:

"OT Duane Brown, Seahawks: Converted $7MM of base salary into signing bonus, saving the team $3.5MM in cap space. After skipping training camp in pursuit of an extension, we learned earlier today that the veteran lineman got an extra year tacked onto his contract. Indeed, as veteran reporter John Clayton points out, Brown got an extra year “with an injury protection benefit for 2022.”

Well that's a new, and excellent revelation! Covers my gripe pretty completely. Well done John.

Apparently the new deal also contains a voidable year in case of injury.
So 2 years with the 2nd voidable. Seems fair to me.

Seahawks also adjusted Diggs contract by guaranteeing game bonuses and shuffling his salary to a signing bonus.
They also got another voidable year to better manage the Cap space.

Entering '21 Seattle had 29 UFA's, of which we resigned 21. Most were of modest note (Shaquill & Jarran Reed were the biggest), kept the big guys (Lockett, Jamal, Dunlap) worked our way thru Brown & Diggs and enter the season with $12MM in cap space. In '22 we have 16 UFA's, Brown and Diggs are the biggest, and we have $42MM in cap space. Overall, a really good job by Schneider - I know in Brown's case age is a concern (he'll be 37 next year). There is a pretty good LT thats a UFA in '22: Armstead (Saints), not young , but 5 years younger than Brown.
