What do you mean a cheap shot?

I mean in a pre-season game most coaches don't start out with a corner blitz over a rookie OL.

Why are you working on a Sat ASHF?

I had to adjust my schedule some time back due to COVID and to accommodate a coworker, so I work weekends for the time being.

I watched bits and pieces of the game. As far as I could tell in the short amount of time I watched was that the only aspect of our game that looked good was our kick/punt coverage teams. Our 3rd string QB looked OK. Very few of our starters played, including Russell, Carson, and of course, Brown and Adams. I recorded it so I'll go back and re-watch it later this week, but from what I could see, it was pretty much a nothingburger. Not much to take away from these early preseason games. They exist basically for talent evaluation.

Their backups were/are better than our backups.
I don't know why we released BJ Emmons. Did he break team rules or something? He looked like a good RB prospect on the Raiders squad.
Good RB prospects are something we need on our team.

Very blah. Not inspiring at all. Should have been a flag on the hit on Geno but other than that the Hawks 2nd team was second best last night.

Special Teams was the highlight, and that’s w/ a missed FG. I consider this a giant nothing burger, but frustrating nevertheless. My big takeaways: 1) It was embarrassing to have Carr (Fresno State Bulldog) pick his nose and gaze at his findings on tv. 2) Geno stresses me out…. The raiders third string QB seems better than our second. 3) we also sent a corner blitz, so the criticism of a Gruden (Gus, really) is not exactly fair. 4) we need to pay Brown nowsap, IMHO, he’s more critical than Adams. He really is more important, though not getting a deal done w/ Adams is more “embarrassing “ to the organization after so much time as given. 5) that should have been a 15 yard penalty on the hit to Geno. I guess the Refs are in pre-season too. 6) it’s tough watching away games lol n the pre-season. Jeeeezus

I hear that! those two were terrible! Especially the play by play, she'd drone on about this or that as if there were no action on the field taking place. I kept thinking "c'mon man, at tell us there was a play!

You taught them there is nothing you can get out of a Pre-season game Bob! Look at the Texans crushing GB, thats not gonna happen in real life!

Oh I know, preseason is just an overblown practice, that's why I couldn't give much less of a hoot about the outcome of he game, but folks should at least try to do their jobs.

Hey, Sis!
Agreed about Brown. If we figure ourselves to be a SB contender, we HAVE to resign him. He's much more important to our success than Adams is, which at this point, seems like it has more to do with saving face for Pete and John than it is putting together a SB contender.
They could cut the preseason games out altogether and I wouldn't give a rip. Replace them with a couple of intersquad scrimmages and call it good. The one thing that is nice about seeing preseason football is that it means that summer is just about over. It's been a long, hot, smoky 2 months.

Only thing I'll say is that in their Super Bowl years, they looked strong in preseason. And historically, problems you see seem to carry over into the regular season. If you suck on 3rd down D in the PS, it doesn't just go away. Having said that, if one goes back and looks, it's probable we played more starters back then.

I'm wondering how the change from 4 pre-season games to 3 affects the playing time of the starters.
Will they only play 1 game or part thereof or will they play 2 this year? They have to get some reps at live action, but is 1 or 2 series enough?
Some teams may be doing different things until they settle on a formula that works for them.

They're essentially eliminating Game 4. There used to be just a one week break between the last preseason game and the regular season opener. This year, there's a two week break. Therefore, Game 3 of this season will look exactly like Game 3 of previous years.
I suspect that we'll see some moderate work for the starters this week. I'd expect Russell to get a couple of series. Hopefully he's not in there when Forsythe is at LT.
