WFT Game

So far, so good. Carson is running the ball with authority, defense playing well, Russell's making good decisions. I wish one of those FG's would have broken pay dirt, but better than a kick in the butt. We FINALLY got a tipped pass for an INT.

Nice to see Penny back on the field, but sick about DJ Dallas. Looks like season's over for him.

2nd half offense sucks. One big running play and that's it.

So it came down to an injured right tackle on the WFT to finally stop them. Should never of been this close.

How many second half possessions did we have? Not counting the kneel downs. 3? Maybe 4. They are a very good defense but we played ultra conservative that second half. It was one of tho games where it felt like weren’t willing to take any risks. At some point we are going to have to find that balance.

Back to the cardiac final damn it!

The offense was inexplicably bad for most of the game. And our defense, after a solid start suddenly sucked for most of the 4th quarter, but boy did they step up that final minute!

At the end of the day we clinched a playoff spot, now we just need to get our shibit together for the Lambs.

Never mind I just looked again- 5 possessions besides the kneel downs. 3 3 and outs. We didn’t take any deep shots, except the one that got intercepted (looked like it was supposed to be a max protect deep shot). They began to bring a S up because everybody knew the Hawks were running. Frustrating...

Actually we had 5 2nd half possession not counting the kneel down: 4 plays TD, 3 plays punt, 3 plays punt, 6 plays INT, and 3 plays punt.

Yea, I noticed that, too. Should have created some open space in the middle for our tight ends and slot receivers.

Even so, I can't complain a whole lot. When I saw that Shell was out, I thought that we'd be in a world of hurt considering their pass rush, but they managed to keep Russell upright during most of the game. It wasn't one of our best offense performances, but it wasn't our worst one, either. The defense came through big time, although one has to note that Dwayne Haskins isn't going to be wearing a gold jacket anytime soon.

I thought our offense was pretty good the1st half against a really good defense. We could have been more aggressive certainly in the 2nd half. Nice day for defense for the most part.

It was the Charles Dickens game Bob, the best of games, the worst of games. Hyde's run was amazing, and the pass rush at the end was awesome, but man was in between was ugly! Cowherd called this one. Seattle was favored by 6.5 and we barely hung on! He said no way we cover.

Rams are playing the JETS like they only care about NEXT weeks game against the 'Hawks. That's a real 13-3 score at the 1/2.

It's now 20-10 Jets with 6 minutes left in the 3rd.

Even if the Rams come back and win, that game really surprises me. I thought that the Jets were the worst team that I'd seen in the past 3-4 years.

5 point win. Man, our offense has fallen back to earth. Pretty sad.

Fortunately, NFC is pretty weak this year. I don't see many people stopping the Chiefs from a repeat unless Mahomes is offer. Even if someone knocks off the Chiefs, I don't see a team from the NFC winning. AFC looks like they have all the power this year.

I really should have specified that it was our pass offense that was so inexplicably bad, our run game was solid. Our run blocking was particularly impressive for the most part.

Great entertainment today on our team.

Hawks' offense and defense checked out at half time and then the defense came to life again right at the end. Typical pattern we have seen all year. Last week's game against the Jets may be the only one this year where I feel the team played for 60 minutes.

It really doesn't matter in the Big Picture.. we still have to win out as our conference record is lowest compared to GB, NO, Rams... but the RAMS choked today real bad. Lets hope they do it again next week.

This is one of the reasons why I don't like the new playoff format. Under the old format, the next two weeks would still be critical as by winning out, we could secure one of the two first round byes. But now that there's just one first round bye, the outcome of our next two games doesn't really matter much.

Just watched the end of the Chiefs/Saints game. Mahomes ought to be outlawed. That dude is so gifted he makes it look like he isn't even trying hard. And with all the elite weapons around him like T. Hill and T. Kelce I just can't see anyone giving them serious competition in the playoffs.

Combine the weapons with a genius calling the plays and it is pretty scary, but they are beatable... if you get lucky against them. On a side note I don’t think I have ever seen a QB throw more INT’s that are called back because of a flag.

Thoughts?? Why is the Seahawks short or intermediate passing game seem so difficult they seem to always have defenders right on them, and then you see other teams have wide open receivers all day... like the Wft tide end open for a dozen completions and was usually open without a defender within 5 yards of him or more.... seems to be that the hawks offense can’t scheme for this same result, and the d let’s it happen .... frustrating when we have the receivers and Qb they have it’s mostly a struggle.....

That's a good question. One reason might be that we're missing Greg Olsen more than we realize as he's the only veteran TE on our roster that knows how to exploit the seams between zone defenses.

Dissly was splitting zones his first year, so I'm not sure that's the case, but we tend to have a limited ability to take what the Defenses are giving us.
I don't know why that is, but we seem to become very unimaginative as the season wears on. Teams have seen what we did early in the year and have
been able to counter that but we don't seem to have changed in kind to adapt for the most part.

I think one reason guys are so open against us is we blitz more than other teams. On many of those passes to Logan Thomas we either had Wags covering him man to man- which is incredibly difficult when BWags starts the play in the middle of the field and then the TE runs an out route. Seems like an easy read for a defense. Also when we bring pressure lately we drop a DL into a passing lane. They don’t always hold their zones like they should which results in busted coverages.

As far as us I don’t love our route concepts and I don’t always love RW’s pre-snap reads. You saw Haskins having success when his first read was open and he could just fire it out there without thinking. I think RW has become a bit gun shy and he is hesitant to pull the trigger. I think you saw that on the pass where he missed David Moore, and maybe even the DK pass where he almost hurt his knee. That one was so frustrating because It was 1 on 1 and DK had a huge size advantage. I think that is a shot you should take every vice you get- but you’ve got to throw it where he can catch it.

I guess we need to start a 10-4 is a disaster thread     .

Honestly, we played a team on a 4 game win streak including handling an 11-0 team. We played at 10 AM on the east coast. They have an excellent head coach who knows Seattle and Russ Wilson very well.
They are a legit top 5 defense with a young mobile QB with a strong arm and not much film. I think Seattle just tried to kill too much clock in the second half and Russ had a bad day throwing the ball and we still won. I'll take it. Playoffs baby. Bring on the lambs.

Also our offense looked pretty good in the first half. We moved the ball well. In the second half I have never seen us come out so conservative. I think PC felt like our Offense isn’t going to win us the game but it can lose us the game. Up 20-3 going into the 4th quarter I can see why, but Washington was daring them to throw deep and they didn’t even really try. On multiple plays they clearly were loading the box and we ran it right into their pressure, not even thinking about calling in audible and those all led to big losses. You shouldn’t start a series with a run of negative 4 yards.

Yeah I agree, and Pete was extremely pleased with the offensive performance saying this was a game plan designed to neutralize WFT's strength - allowing the Hawks to run the ball and keep the rush off RW and "they totally did it. We ran the ball well and kept them from hitting the QB." We had 181 yards rushing - 7.0 average. So, if that was the plan, we have no basis for complaining.

They choked it down a little too much late and the D got a little gassed. But Cleveland scored 20 and got to 10 wins and nobody's talking about their ugly offense. Imagine if we had lost.

I am overjoyed with the win. People forget the struggles we had in many games in 2013.I was at the Klink for the Tampa game we trailed 21 zip in to an 0-8 team. The first playoff game with the saints was brutal, a rock fight. Russ was awful until a great throw and catch with Baldwin to salt it away.A win is a win.

But getting your run game and defense going at this time of year is a championship formula. There's nobody we can't beat if we play our game like yesterday and Russ is just good russ. If we can get the guy he was the first 7 weeks back we will be world champs assuming everything else is as good as it is right now.

I'm not letting Russ off that easy on the pick. Sweat was right in front of him and he didn't put any kind of velocity on the pass, just sort of dinked it. It wasn't an extraordinary defensive play or some sort of fluke. It was also a first down play in the 4th quarter with us up by two scores. No excuse for getting careless.

Agreed that our overall performance, although not stellar, was satisfactory. The defense has really stepped it up as we've held our last 4 opponents to 17 or fewer points.

Haskins just can't get out of his own way. He played decent against us and the announcers were raving about how much he has changed and how good he looked as the scout team QB since his demotion. His issue has usually fallen on a lack of leadership and maturity, not talent. Well it looks like he is still just as immature as ever:

What a moron. People are saying that maybe he won the starting spot back and then he goes out to a strip club after the game, just stupid.

" It wasn't an extraordinary defensive play or some sort of fluke"

It was a good defensive play, on a timing play normally a DE wouldn't be out out there and he got pretty high. I don't see a tipped INT like that as a bad play by the QB.

I've watched that play several times. I guess if you consider that Sweat is a "big ugly", ie a lineman, then I can give the INT a few more style points. But Russell looked like he was trying to lob it over him in the same manner a point guard in basketball would try to get a pass into the pivot, and it shouldn't have surprised him that Sweat would leap and try to block his pass as he was just a few feet away. He would have been better off either dropping sidearm and throw it around Sweat or just tucking and running as there wasn't any other defenders between him and the sidelines.

And again, I want to emphasize that it was a first down play with us leading by two scores in the 4th quarter. Russell was a little too caviler, a little too cute, and it bit him as it sometimes does.

Having said that, overall I think that Russell's play was on the plus side of the ledger. He threw some nice balls and made some good run/pass decisions.

I agree about Russ' game overall. It was no where near his best effort but he did what was asked of him within the game plan. I can't be certain because there is no way to know what play was called in any specific instance but it looked like he was taking a page out of Hass' book in audibling to a run play on a few occasions.

I'm also of the opinion that the pick was not an egregiously bad play. Montez Sweat is young and athletic but he is a 260+ lb DE so I could see Russ thinking his pass window had a lower sill than it wound up having. That was more a credit to Montez than a discredit to Russ.
