The "AB" Rumor Mill is Humming

Yep, Pete said today we will be pursuing AB's services and once he is allowed to sign a deal, we hope it's with us.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30162920/sources-seattle-seahawks-one-teams-looking-antonio-brown

According to ESPN Reporter Shaefter, AB worked out with Russell and Geno over the summer and has told friends he likes Russell and would consider it. He's been arrested a whole bunch of times for various off-field schnanagans (sp?) including a domestic and an assault on a moving van driver. I didn't see 'drugs or steroids' mentioned. Maybe that's a good thing as Seattle is thousands of miles from his homies.
Who knows what his mindset would be. The only thing I see is he never had a ring and we would give him that one chance.
Opinions?

So long as the injury but doesn't bite us, I don't think we need him. I'm very comfortable with our WR corps.

Don't want that loon in the house influencing DK. Keep the poison out of the locker room.

I'd have serious reservations, too but it seems Carroll is quite interested.

Arguably the strongest position group on the team is wide receiver yet we're trying to bring in a known head case while our pass rush looks more like a square dance contest at the senior center.

I don't get it.

This is dumb. There are already not enough footballs to go around . DK is statistically quite a ways better than megatron. Lockett is already losing touches and imo
Moore is a highly underrated receiver with several circus catches this year and a near miss last game . Then there are the backs and multiple talented tight ends . My biggest problem with AB is the guy is clearly not right in the head . He won’t accept a role playing position as he’s been a feature wideout his whole career either . This looks like a Percy Harvin deal only worse . This guy couldn’t make it with Tomlin, Gruden or Belichick. What makes PC think he would do better ? Hate this . I’ll change my mind the first time he takes the top off too  i didn’t like the Josh Gordon deal either but he made some big grabs . I guess we will see . That’s why they make the big money .

I don't mind us sniffing around Brown. Overall I don't like the idea of signing him for a number of reasons but I could probably stomach a veteran minimum non-guaranteed contract. Although the two are not mutually exclusive it is frustrating that we're talking about possibly adding to our WR group while the Ravens are adding an impact pass-rusher. This is just a continuance of the head scratching off-season moves they made. For some reason they do not see the value in pass rushers, although Ngakoue would have only cost 6 mil for the rest of the year. He clearly is a more talented player than Sheldon Richardson and we gave up a 2nd rounder for him. I don't know but if we miss out on the SB this year because of the defense the finger will be directly pointed at PC and JS because they had both the means and the opportunity to fix a glaring need this off-season and they have failed to do so. Still a golden opportunity falls into the their lap during the season (how often does a 13+ sack guy become available 1/3rd of the way through the season for a 2nd round pick??). I get it would suck going into the draft next year with no picks until the 4th round but it would suck more if we miss this chance to win the SB because of a major hole in our team that we could have easily filled.

As it takes 3 weeks or so to get ready, he'd only be signing for maybe 5 games + post season. That's it. There is no long-term contract or commitment at this time. From that standpoint, I don't see the issue. If he doesn't work out, cut him. I have a feeling that AB only wants one thing right now... a RING and the Seahawks are one of a few teams that can give him that. Head Case? Maybe. he sure didn't impress anyone in NE or Oakland, that's for sure. Maybe Pete knows something we all don't. He seems to be on-board, but we haven't heard from AB since he was given the 8 games to sit, either.

Well, we don’t know what they’re thinking. It makes sense to me in this regard: You get him singed to the practice squad for the minimum, and if you get hit by injuries or COVID, and are in a SB chase - then you can keep your game going.

Stupid, WR is not an area we need now! IF it was a psychotic dysfunctional Defensive lineman, I could see it. AB is just way too much drama.

Yea, this season is so whacky that's probably not a bad strategy if it's true. At 5-0 and a 2 game lead in a tough division, it would make sense to cover all our bets with some insurance.

Our team just re-signed Kendricks and signed Ray Ray Armstrong both LB's.
So we are heavy at LB and TE, and now if we sign AB we will be heavy at WR, but still light along the DL even with
the addition of Harrison. It's a strange mix and priority to me how they've assembled the team.

Even if the WR corps was pedestrian, I still wouldn't want a prima donna WR headache (coughpercyharvincough). But the WR corps is the best position group on the team, and Field Gulls' "purely statistical case against adding Antonio Brown" is a good breakdown as to why adding AB doesn't even make sense from a production standpoint.

I'm not on board either, mostly from a chemistry POV, but I can see John and Pete feeling haunted by all the injuries last year...we probably would have made it to the SB if we hadn't been decimated without anyone left.

Watching highlights of AB in Pittsburgh is pretty cool, though...until that dirty hit by Burfict. That's when people say he turned into 'AB'.

No need to worry. In another 3 weeks, we'll have another opportunity to sign him.

Thank GOD!! That dude gets around more than the corona virus, & he's just as destructive! Let's hope he does not wind up in Seattle. I think the reason PC & JS pursued him is because Russ worked out with him in the summer, & they had some chemistry. Russ probably lobbied for the guy.

I read the Hawks brought in AB only because Russ wanted him but pumped him up with public comments, normalized and endorsed him hoping someone else would pounce and are quite relieved he is Brady's headache. From a need standpoint he's a better fit there anyway as he made little sense here other than to placate Russ.Tampa is in trouble at the position. Wouldn't it be weird to face Brady and Brown In the NFC title game?

Yup, I read it too:

Some in league circles wonder whether coach Pete Carroll repeatedly confirmed interest in Brown in the hopes that someone else would sign Brown simply so that the Seahawks wouldn’t have to. With quarterback Russell Wilson speaking in such glowing terms about Brown, it seemed clear that Wilson wanted him on the team. Carroll and G.M. John Schneider may not have wanted to risk adding Brown to the roster, but they also may not have wanted to tell their MVP candidate of a quarterback that they wouldn’t sign him.

I wonder what the over/under is until AB wears out his welcome.
it might be best if it was formatted in hours instead of games.
