Teams Getting Covid-19 Now

One of my buds down here in the Bay Area was yakking about teams that are having a Covid outbreak. His theory is that some teams are quietly encouraging players to get it now than in-season so they are purposely contracting it. Sounds like a conspiracy theory but there are coaches than may have thought that up.

Not believing that at all. It has the capability of permanently reducing your lung capacity by 30% or more, which would end any player's career.

One player on any team getting it and having a severe case where he ends up in hospital would probably put a big
damper on the plans for the league as a whole. If, like Bob said he ended up with lung damage, it has the possibility
of scuttling any type of season.

But I can see those that are uninformed thinking some teams might do that or maybe some teams considering it for
a short time.

LMAO! Sounds like something PC would do in a heartbeat.

But probably multi-millionaire player 20 somethings with time on their hands hanging in the clubs

I can't see someone encouraging that, but it is bound to happen. No way to get around this virus spreading when you have a 25 to 60 percent asymptomatic spread rate. Athletes have a very minuscule chance of suffering anything severe from it, though not a zero chance. Anyone encouraging athletes to get it would be opening themselves up to lawsuits, so I seriously doubt that is the case.

That's preposterous. There's no proof that the human body will develop lasting antibodies in sufficient quantities and lasting long enough to provide a person with a natural immunity. Just in the past couple of days, there's been a study that shows antibody effectiveness in subjects that have recovered from COVID falling off drastically after a few months, so it's entirely possible for a person to get infected multiple times during the year.

I can't believe anyone smart enough to coach an NFL football team subscribing to such an outlandish plan. They could get sued for all their worth, perhaps held criminally liable if they promoted such a scheme without getting a doctor or epidemiologist to sign off on such a plan.
