What one player, in past drafts, did you have us taking that we would be better with?
George Kittle comes to mind for me. Not only would we have a great weapon, we’d take one from our foe.

If I remember correctly, Nick Chubb instead of Penny would have been a good choice.
Going back in time, Fletcher Cox instead of Bruce Irvin seems about right.

10-4 on both of those. How about Clay Mathews instead of Aaron Curry? Or if you really want to go back in time, how about, how about Bret Favre instead of Dan McGuire?

Yep, Fletcher Cox. Of all of the years we passed on a prospect I wanted, that's the one I was most convinced JS made the wrong decision.

For me it will always be drafting Josh Wilson while Eric Weddle was still on the board.

Thats the big one for me is Cox because I called it at the time. Ed Reed over for Jeremy Stevens iS another. Ed Reed was just a no brainer pick.

RD SEL # PLAYER POSITION SCHOOL
1 31 Kelly Jennings CB Miami (Fla.)
2 63 Darryl Tapp DE Virginia Tech
4 128 Rob Sims G Ohio State
5 163 David Kirtman FB USC
7 239 Ryan Plackemeier P Wake Forest
7 249 Ben Obomanu WR Auburn
Our worst draft 2006!
Actually my biggest flip out of all time was taking Marcus Tubbs over Igor Olshanky, both were bust!

Agreed on Chubb. He was the player I wanted most 2 years ago. He was my first choice in bob's 3 deep mock.

Are go vandals and ID Hawk the same guy or are they two separate people?

There was a guy, Andre Hines, offensive tackle out of Stanford and our 2nd round pick in 1980, that supposedly we got mixed up with his teammate at Stanford and unknowingly drafted him. He was horrible. Jack Patera said that Hines was in worse shape than he was. Wiki says he played 9 games for us but I'm not sure how accurate that is. I know that he didn't last the season and was never seen in a football uniform again.

Owen Gill was a 2nd round pick in 1985. He was cut in training camp, never played a down for us. He was the Iowa Hawkeyes career rushing leader. He played a bit for the Colts in 85. Not sure how long he hung around the league, but never good sign when you cut bait with a 2nd round guy.

I'd forgotten about Owen Gill. Ugh.
Lamar King was one of Holmgren's #1 picks and has to rank up there, but if I recall, he had a lot of injury problems.

And I forgot about Lamar King. I'd never heard of Saginaw Valley State until he was drafted. Yeah, injury plagued guy. Dislocated shoulder (?) his rookie year, then a bunch of injuries after that. Never really got the chance to show anything.

Although he did start for us for several years, Kelly Jennings was one of the worst picks of the Holmgren area. He was pretty good at making quarterbacks think he had his man covered, but once they figured out how easy it was for receivers to wrestle a ball away from him, anytime they saw him singled up on a receiver, it was like dollar signs going off in their eyes.

McIntosh, the olineman drafted in the first, had a medical condition (forgot what) and never played. And then there’s Malik McDowell. We could have had Buddha Baker, Dalvin Cook, Cooper Kupp etc. hindsight is 20/20. But damn.

Ugh. For a team that supposedly has a run first philosophy.

On a ESPN 30 for 30, HoF QB John Elway (who is from Washington) said he had hoped we would trade for him on draft day... since he wasn't going to play for Baltimore. There was an offer on the table but Instead we drafted Curt Warner but couldn't pull off trade.

That’s a mind bender. Then I would have liked Elway? I cannot wrap my head around that... not even a little.

Yea, and Bosworth wouldn't have been able to have called him "Mr. Ed".

I pissed some people in Boston off but who did I fear more as a Hawks fan, Elway or Brady? Elway by far!!

I still say Tubbs wasn't a bust. He was pro bowl caliber till he got hurt. That was just bad luck, not a bad pick.

Agreed. I've always felt that there should be some sort of separate category, asterisk, or something to denote when a draft pick fails primarily due to injuries, particularly those that did not have injury histories prior to being drafted. Steve Emtman is a classic example. They're a lot different than a player like Ryan Leaf or Johnny Manziel.
As far as Tubbs goes, our defense was hugely better with him in the lineup, especially our run defense.

Yeah I don't know if you remember but we had a pretty major discussion about this in the old PI forum and Norcal (or NoCal, I get them mixed up) and I actually went through all of the official game books of all the games he played and and compiled with and without him data on it. The difference was striking.

Although I don't recall it specifically being discussed in the PI forum, that could be where I became aware of the comparison.
Was your comparison between Tubbs and team performance related to the entire defense or just the run defense? As I recall, the biggest contrast was our run defense with and without Tubbs.

It was the entire defense but we broke it down by pass and run as well.
