Great news! That margin of approval of 60 votes works out to be 3%, not exactly a rousing majority, but who cares.

I actually do care about the rich kids not liking it. I'm glad that they don't. The pay scale is way too skewed towards the stars of the game. Spread the wealth.

I'm also intrigued about the 17th game. I've been using road trips to see the country and in some cases, the world. My guess is that they'll expand the international series, although probably not China for awhile.

I heard on NFL Radio this morning that about 500 players didn't vote.
With a margin of 60 in favor, that could have swayed it to the other way.
But it is what it is, so the next step is the opening of FA or not if the NFL
makes the decision not to proceed yet.

From what I've read, the 17 game schedule won't come into being until 2022. I assume that they'll axe the 4th preseason game at the same time. Not sure when they'll add the two extra playoff teams/games, only that the earliest is 2021.

It will be interesting to see how they reconfigure the schedule when they add the 17th game. I've heard where they plan on adding a 2nd bye week per team, which if they extend the season on the back end, would push the Super Bowl to the 3rd Sunday in February. There's also been discussion about allowing teams to schedule intersquad scrimmages in lieu of the 4th preseason game, the implication being that they won't extend the season on the front side, ie first Sunday in September, which has been informally ceded to MLB.

I'm not necessarily thrilled with all the new terms, either, but like everyone else, I'm glad they got it done.

The NFLPA is a little different than your run-of-the-mill Teamsters or AFL-CIO union, particularly those members that we assume voted for the agreement. Those guys realize that it's here today, gone tomorrow. They are more of a mindset to take the money and run vs. the veterans that can afford to risk a work stoppage.

It looks like I was wrong about the new playoff format. According to this article, it starts this season:

The only change in schedule that will go into effect this year, will be in the playoff formatting. There will be one additional wild card playoff team in each division. That would be 7 teams from both the AFC and NFC (compared to 6 in the previous seasons).
