Interesting story on an undrafted free agent from our old friend the Seattle PI:

A player to keep an eye on in tomorrow night's preseason game vs. Denver.

After searching for a big WR his entire tenure here in Seattle, Pete may have found 2 in Ferguson and Metcalf.
Pete has also always liked players that were high recruits from High School, so maybe we can have a
"Twin Towers" type of receiver tandem.
I'm hoping for him as those 2 could be real trouble in the Red Zone for opposing teams.

Boy, it would sure create some matchup problems for opposing defenses, wouldn't it?. The only truly big, effective WR that we had was Chris Mathews that took the Patriots secondary to school in the first half of SB 49 until they put a big DB in Browner on him.

But we'll see. There's going to be a lot of competition at the WR position this preseason. Besides the DL, it will be the most watch position battle, at least in my mind.

Yup, Jazz is my guy of this year's crop of rookies! Hope he kills it!

and Russell throws high fast balls. This could bring down his overthrowing percentage.

Well I kind of hope you are right on this as it would be fun to watch but I also hope you're wrong since he was undrafted meaning that all our drafts aren't as good. I was actually hoping that Collier and Metcalf would be the standouts which they still may be. Could we dare to dream of hitting the proverbial lottery and have all three shine? I'm hoping so.

I'll take a draft class of Doug Baldwin types any year, even if it means missing on the top picks.

Yes it's the first preseason game... but Ferguson, he is the star of the game along with Paxton on offense. He uses his body the way we can only hope DK can learn it. What a pair they could be. And Ferguson has a better 1st step, sharper cuts and looks quicker.

I watched the first half live and will watch the 2nd half later this morning. I wasn't too impressed with any individual performances. Glad to hear Ferguson played well.

I wasn't much impressed either. I'm not sure one could really tell if a player does real well in the preseason but you can tell if someone does bad. I hate to say it but I think Geno looked bad. I know we didn't start our oline and Lynch played against Denver's bottom of the barrel players but since both were high draft choices I wanted to see more out of Geno. Lynch performed as expected against the chaff that he played against.

I'd really like to see the starters against starters but that won't happen until week 3 of preseason. That's where we'll get an idea of how this team is really doing. Until that time, we are seeing who gets cut and who survives. Practice over the next 2 weeks and the games will determine who makes the team and who doesn't. I think week 4 is for position battles when they can't decide between 2 players and playing people that might catch on with another team while not exposing the team you know you are going to have to an injury in the last preseason game.

I thought Ferguson was interesting when I read about him. Hard to believe he went undrafted. He dominated in college and has the body. He was the player of the game on offense along with Lynch. DK looked a little stiff.

Quite frankly, I think DK would have stood out "IF" Lynch was the QB when he was playing or "IF" the starting oline was in and gave Geno enough time to hit him in stride.

Except for those that are out due to injury or recovering from postseason surgeries, ie Bobby, Ziggy, et al, we should get a pretty good look at all the starters in next week's preseason game vs. Minnesota. They're going to want Russell to get some work with the new WR's. I would expect to see Russell and the first team offense for at least the first two offensive series.

Normally I would whole heartedly agree with you but over the last 6-7 years, this team doesn't even show up to play until the second half and oft times not until the 4th quarter. So hoping to see how this team is going to shape up when the starters only play the first quarter is a bit of a stretch for me to believe. That's just me though.

River's post makes me want to post an over/under poll.

IF the starters play the first two series, what's your prediction "over/under" of 10 total plays for both series? I'm going with under.

Run, run, pass, punt
Run, run, pass, punt with maybe one first down thrown in there somewhere most likely due to a penalty too.

I'm not sure that they're going to want to put Russell in predictable 3rd down passing situations this early in the preseason, so IMO he's more likely to be throwing the ball on 1st or 2nd down.

That's a pretty easy over.

So I think that means that River and Cbob (Cbob for sure) are going with the over on this.

Anyone else?
