When Will Bobby Get Paid?

It's been pretty quiet, with no holdout or rumors of dissent but also nothing regarding parameters, either. The article below speculates that a new contract will happen by the start of training camp this Thursday:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/se ... spartanntpHopefully we'll hear something soon.

Hopefully soon.
The fact that there has been zero negative speculation by the press is almost a source of concern in and of itself though ...

I like the way he's handled it up to now.
He's attended the mini camps and helped the younger players while
still not participating.
I hope he gets a good contract soon.

Isn't he acting as his own agent? If that's the case, then that could explain some of the silence.

Yes he is. Which explains the silence from his camp, and SOP from the Seahawks is not to speak on negotiations, except to answer questions with a little real information as possible, until they're complete. Which explains the silence on the Seahawks part ...
It just feels ominous because we're used to some nugget of speculation from BR or PFF that suddenly becomes "news" because every on line source their is writes their own speculation based on that speculation.
I like this better frankly, it's just not the norm.

I thought I'd read that. Thanks for confirming it.

"Acting as his own agent" is a disaster waiting to happen. If this was going well, it would of been done today, once the team knew it wasn't paying Reid this year and we have the cap space for Bobby.

Resigning Reed is going to be complicated now that he's been suspended. The PR image of resigning him to what would be a huge contract just months after serving a lengthy suspension for DV isn't a prospect that the Hawks would be looking forward to.
Hopefully we hear something about Bobby very soon.

I’m not reading too much into it at this time, but as TC nears it’s end without a deal, then it gets
more concerning- if it isn’t done by then.
With Reed under suspension, it might give Wagner more leverage and might provide more urgency
to getting it completed.

Bobby and all the LBs are only as good as the Dline in front of them keep the Oline off of them and allow them to scrape the line and make tackles.

That's great news. Hope the new DL guy we got can keep the OL off of Bwags...

In listening to the TC broadcast this morning, it was said the new DL might not be good pass rushers,
but they are solid against the run.

Well that's not good in a pass first league.

Maybe not, but a strong run defense on the DL will keep Bobby clean like you want.

Perhaps not before TC as what we were anticipating, but close enough for government work.

Never a doubt, be nice if it was 4 years, but Bobby done alright as his own agent, left himself in line for maybe an extra blockbuster deal before his game fades.

3 year / 54 million = 18m a year in new money and locked up for 4 years. On one side, he became the highest paid inside LB in the game... but as a '99' in Madden and arguably the #1 defender in the NFL, he's only lower top 10 in overall salary, so you could say he gave the team a discount.
Not a bad deal, and that he negotiated himself, but very very rare in the business world that it worked out seemingly seamless and without the whining and taking sides in the press we are all used to. Hopefully more players don't follow in his footsteps. It can get messy.

There’s a Salary Cap floor, so the best players are going to get paid a lot more than $5 million.

If you're an All Pro and future HOF'er, it's probably a lot easier to act as your own agent. Steve Largent used to negotiate his own contracts.
We're still in a 'win now' mode although I'm becoming increasingly concerned about our pass rush, or lack thereof. The only way not resigning Bobby wouldn't be the smart thing to do is if we were in a Raiders-style rebuild.
