Too often he looks like he's walking through cement, showing just average speed and effort in pursuit outside of the tackle box. An impressive performance in Mobile has Collier's stock rising still further as he showed an intriguing blend of power and agility, projecting as a jack-of-all trades, master of none type who can play multiple roles up and down the line of scrimmage.
We could have had Sweat, who was a wayyy better prospect. This guy runs a 4.9, Sweat 4.41. I am not seeing it.

He seems like a good fit here.
RiverDog wrote:We could have had Sweat at #21, which would have meant no trade down. Sweat had one of the most impressive workouts for DE's and had top 10 potential, but a lot of teams with a need at an edge rusher passed on him, so the reported heart conditions must have been valid. He also had some character concerns. I thought we might take him at #21, too, but not at all disappointed that we didn't.
The fact that Collier can play inside or out was probably the deciding factor in his selection. Pete has said that he wants another Michael Bennett-type player, and this guy fits that mold.
I thought that we could have gotten a little more mileage out of those trade downs, but we've gone from pick poor to pick rich with that #21 overall We have a big gap between #37 in the 2nd and #92 in the 3rd, so don't be surprised to see us package a couple of those four 4th rounders to move up late in the 2nd or early in the 3rd. We have 4 selections within 18 slots in the 4th round, I can't see us making picks with all of them.
Oly wrote:After missing on McDowell, I can see JS/PC being hesitant to draft a guy with both medical and character concerns. Does Sweat have a higher ceiling? Hell yeah. Is he much less likely to reach his ceiling than Collier? Hell yeah, and not only because of the medical/character concerns; Collier has more refined technique, and the inability to transition from reliance on explosiveness to reliance on technique is one of the main reasons that prospects bust. Hawks fans have been rightly critical with some of the risks the front office has taken, so I'm surprised that there isn't more satisfaction with taking the safer pick. Now, if the Hawks had a boatload of picks, I would have loved to see them get Sweat with their first pick and then get another DE in the 2nd/3rd in case Sweat busts. But that wasn't the situation, so I'm on board--although not enthusiastic--with Collier.
NorthHawk wrote:I can see us trading down again a few spots if we can get a mid 3rd and giving up one of the 4ths we got yesterday.
It depends on the other teams of course so we might just have to wait.
Somewhere we should take a good interior DL and a Guard. I can see us taking a WR in the 4th as well as a TE.
RB is still a possibility, too.

IMO we're done trading down in this draft unless someone makes us an offer we can't refuse.
Anyone want to bet a tall cold one that our #37 will be a WR?

I'm intrigued by Metcalf. He has a huge upside, could be another Dez Bryant, and might turn out to be that red zone threat we've been looking for. Nice to see that we finally have a big, strong WR in our receiving corps.
