There were reports that the Seahawks wanted Kendricks more than Wagner in that draft, but as fate would have it we ended up with the better player.
Pete seems to want to work out or sign players he missed out either in College or in the draft, so with KJ out it isn't much of a surprise.

I wouldn't think that insider trading would be a huge PR bombshell that could demoralize the team unless it had something to do with football. IMO if he's not in the slam, ie either innocent or some sort of suspended sentence/probation, I don't have a problem with him playing.

BTW, I don't know how the millennials define "jail bait", but the way it's used in this thread doesn't meet my understanding of the term.

I'm a baby boomer, not a millennial. To me, "jail bait" means someone whose lifestyle and decisions are attracting attention from law enforcement and putting them on a trajectory that leads to time in the slammer.

Yeah, Jail Bait is a girl who wants to have sex with you but is under the age of consent. That's what it meant when I was growing up.

Well, 'date' isn't exactly correct, but I think we're on the same page. More like what Idahawk said.

Under legal age of consent you are guilty of "Statutory Rape" even if they say it is ok. Thus, JAILBAIT.

I had to edit this as it might seem like I'm disagreeing with Riv. I'm concurring with him actually. Without the sex, it isn't a felony (e.g. dating without the sex isn't statutory rape). It could be kidnapping though if you take them across state lines.

From me no, but I was an "early bloomer" and had a bit of a reputation so I often had some expectations to live up to ...

I’m with Riv, Bob & Idaho on what jailbait means. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jailbait

This may sound hypocritical, but non-violent/ white collar crime is not the same to me as other legal troubles. And we seriously need help at LB w/ Bobby now Q with a groin issue. :o

This crime isn’t even comparable to the type of violent crimes that get players in the news these days. Besides that the crime occurred 4 years ago, he paid back the money, and admitted to everything. Yes, he still has to go to trial and there is a very real possibility that he will face a jail sentence, but I would take a team full of white color criminals over one Greg Hardy or Ray Rice.

From my perspective it is obvious that no one worth their salt wants to play for PC anylonger. They gave up on the season already

Looks we may only have him for 2 games.

The NFL just suspended him until his hearing in January, he appealed and can play until his appeal is heard in 10 days ... not that this was unexpected, according to Greg Bell:

Mychal Kendricks' deal with #Seahawks will be week to week for rest of season, because it's coming after week 1. Only vested veterans on rosters week 1 have entire contracts for that season guaranteed.

Of course, as he cooperated with investigators and made immediate restitution the NFL may well allow him to play until January anyway after the appeal.

Either way we're not on the hook for anything when we do cut him loose.

I thought it was a stopgap signing to help until KJ and Wagner are healthy again. That should be only a couple of weeks.

Yeah, me too. But I was kinda hoping it’d turn out to be more than that.

He’s a local boy and he and is brother do a lot of regional charity work. Not only was it a great hometown story about a single Mom who raised two NFL players who spend their summers back in the valley heat helping younger folks be the best versions of themselves, it was fun as a football fan to see our young ones do well. We are sill hoping this isn’t as bad as it appears. We shall see.

Kendricks is looking pretty good. Playing like he’s got nothing to loose. Oh that’s right he don’t.

I'll happily take 53 players with nothing to lose, over 53 saving themselves for their business interests, and long term plans, each and every Sunday....

If they don’t sign anyone of note, I expect Calistro to get the start beside Wagner.

Of course, we all have the tendency to want to give one of our own a break, but I do think there's a difference between 'crimes' like PED's and domestic violence. It's not like a lot of young kids are going to go out and commit a white collar crime because Kendricks isn't immediately suspended.
