More on Duane Brown

Just love reading this:

The one-on-one pass-rush drill between offensive and defensive linemen is a must-see at Seattle Seahawks training camp, and not just because of the ever-present potential for fireworks.

The rules are simple and self-explanatory, and the head-to-head setup takes away the advantages an offensive lineman would have in a game. There's no line-of-scrimmage traffic to clog up the pass-rush lanes, no double-teams or skill players to help out with a chip block, no threat of a run to keep the defenders honest and no quick throws to get the ball out before they can get to the quarterback.

And yet Duane Brown wins almost every time.

It's about as automatic as Richard Sherman was in defending a sideline fade, as sure as a third-down catch by Doug Baldwin.

If you're wondering why the Seahawks gave up as much as they did to acquire Brown (a pair of high draft picks), why they just spent as much as they did to keep him (an $11.5 million-per-year extension) and why the Pro Bowl left tackle is such a keystone to their offensive plans, watching him impose his will at practice is a good place to start.

I like reading this but does that article make any kind of statement about our DL rushers?

One thing for sure is he's an upgrade at LT from last year.
Whether he's worthy of a Pro Bowl honor or not we'll have to see.

Brown is playing albeit in practice lights out and once preseason games start has the opportunity to really show off his stuff. I Hope and pray he can last 4 years or more. We Are slowly building a good OL

And at the other bookend, the Hawks just did something that they swore they wouldn't do by moving George Fant from LT backing up Brown to RT to compete with Ifedi, whom just about everyone agrees is having his problems:

As more and more Defenses are putting excellent pass rushers on either or both sides, I wonder if the long term trend will be to a more athletic RT than the mauler type.
I'm thinking more of defenders like we saw last week in Ingram, and guys in the league like Von Miller.
I saw Fant as strictly a LT because of his length and athleticism, but maybe as Defenses are evolving, he could be a good fit at RT.
Hopefully the techniques he has learned aren't so ingrained that he has problems mirroring them when playing RT.

I love Pete & John and I know hindsight t is 20/20.... but damn it that we passed on Ryan Ramczyk last year in favor of Malik McDowell. What a sad ass tale that is. We will never know what Malik would have done, but after one year in the league, NFL.com projects Ramczyk to be an all-pro right tackle this year. :o

If memory serves me, Bob had him as his 1st pick in the 1st. Wouldn’t that have been nice?

He probably would have ended up at LT and negated our need to send picks for Brown.
As it is, I continue to say our FO doesn't get Offense the same way they understand Defense.
On Defense they turn questionable or unknown players into studs but on Offense they turn great players into duds (Graham being the latest example).
