Hawks offered 2nd round pick for Jacoby Brissett

Apparently, we offered a future 2nd round pick to the Colts for backup QB Jacoby Brissett. We were turned down & apparently the Colts Irsay says they wouldn’t take a 1st for him. While it would be nice to have him, a second seems awfully steep to me, particularly in light of our rebuilding efforts. Thoughts?

First off, we currently don't have a 2nd round pick in 2019 as it was part of the trade for Jerome Brown so they'd be talking about a 2020 pick, which is two years out, and I doubt that the Colts would want to wait that long to cash it in. Secondly, Irsay is talking chit by saying that he wouldn't take a first rounder for Brissett, especially given that the Colts are not expected to contend and with Luck looking pretty solid. There isn't a team on the planet that wouldn't pounce like a chicken on a June bug if they were offered a 1st rounder for their backup QB.

I saw some speculation on another site that indicated the Hawks might be wanting an insurance policy in case things don't go well with Russell in their contract negotiations next season. That logic probably makes more sense than anything other explanation, but I still don't believe it. IMO the rumor got started due to Schott's former relationship with Brissett and with what appears to be a healthy Andrew Luck.

Jason La Canfora reports that a 2nd round pick was not offered. Either the Globe or La Canfora are reporting fake news. Go figure....

Hmmm. Interesting, Curmudgeon! We shall find out I suspect.

That’s what I thought when I read it and i think most reasonable football fans would at least wonder. RW strikes me as the kind of guy to want to play in NYC or LA, so I’m not so sure it’ll be easy to ink a third contract with him. I sure hope he does, but I think there could be trouble.

...part of the trade for Jerome Brown

Who the hell is Jerome Brown? ;-)

I knew that. I was giving an old friend a hard time. Hence the winky face.

Jerome Brown played DT for the Eagles but was killed in a car crash in 1992.
RD, that's some real old synapses in the brain that must have fired for that name to pop up.

Yea, I'm still recovering from a long night. 'Jerome' and 'Duane', both two sylable names that end in 'e' I suppose is why I mixed them up. And you're right about Jerome Brown. Simply tragic. Him and Reggie White were the two best DL duos in a generation.

If you're from the deep South, "Duane" does have two syllables: "doo-wane". Every word has at least two syllables in the deep South. "That" is "tha-at".

Well, let's put it this way: "Duane" has the same number of syllables as "Jerome."

And I always thought that southern accents elimanted syllables, such as "Na Lins" or "Lou Ville" instead of "New Orleans" and "Louisville".

Ha! If Tha-at has two syllables, they have to make up the time by shortening others, right?
