One of my favorite coaches, brought the Hawks to respectability and kept them competitive

R.I.P. Ground Chuck. You put Seattle on the map as a contender.

SH*T- one of my all-time favorites, and not just because he coached my team.

I'm not sure how many times I've told this story, but I worked for the team back in the day at training camp, and I can tell you from personal experience, the man had a presence.

He even spoke to me once (told me to "Get that guy outta here" for some tryout player that apparently didn't like getting cut and was following him into his dorm)!

You know how nature tells you "Don't mess with this" with certain markings and otherwise outwardly identifiable characteristics?

Wearing hats in this way is one of those:

About 15 yrs ago I was flying to Palm Springs and in line at the airport. I kind of recognized the guy ahead with his back to me and said “Coach?”. Knox turned around and we began to chat. My son was with me and Knox asked if he played, I said “yes, he’s a QB. They’re using the run & shoot and it’s pretty tough. Knox replied “I am familiar with the chuck and duck”. One of my favorite memories, he was very engaging and kind to us.

RIP Chuck Knox!!! I LOVE YOU MAN!!! You got us to the championship game FIRST!! What a GREAT TEAM, a Defense eclipsed ONLY by the Super Bowl winning unit lead by the LOB!!!

All you asked of the guys in that AFC Championship game was to defeat the Raiders for the THIRD STRAIGHT TIME, twice in the regular season and now on the Raiders home field for a trip to the Super Bowl.

You won where EVER you coached. To some you were Ground Chuck BUT, you knew when to go to the air, who could forget Dave Krieg's multiple 300 yard plus games or your pass happy Buffalo teams?

You are great Chuck, Canton awaits...

With all due respect and as much as I loved Coach Knox, he doesn't get into the HOF.

Mr Rah Rah has gotten into the playoffs nearly every year since he arrived, got to the SB twice and won one. I love that the haters and trolls have written him off. He's not done yet, that's for sure.

As Knox himself said, he doesn't care about legacies, so I don't think he ever had the HOF in mind, more than just doing right by his players and being successful. And he did that everywhere he went. RIP.

Yea, I normally would have made a more forceful rebuttal to that statement, but I didn't want to add an exclamation point or start a debate in an RIP thread for such a well respected man.

Chuck got as much out of his players as anybody, but never had the franchise QB

True, they made a major play for Elway and Moon, it was about picks with Elway, with Moon guaranteed money.

Well it appears he wanted Favre when the Hawks took McGwire. Imagine that.

We had some good teams under Chuck and they were our teams they ment something to us. It gave us something to talk about something to root for.

I had a couple of drinks one evening with Steve Moore who was OC under Knox. He told me they had a Chance to trade for Boomer. Knox wanted it but it got nixed by ownership.
