https://www.fieldgulls.com/2017/10/23/1 ... ta-falconsThe Seattle Seahawks may take a look at an interesting name to fill Cliff Avril’s roster spot, with the Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta reporting Monday afternoon that he’s heard Dwight Freeney could be an option for the Seahawks. On Monday evening, Dave Mahler of 950 KJR went further, reporting Freeney is on the way to Seattle and will visit the Seahawks tomorrow. At 37, Freeney is still a free agent after playing last season with the Atlanta Falcons.
At 37 obviously not a long term acquisition, but what a great guy for guys like Clark and Jackson to spend a season with.

If he's still got the juice get him in here. I wanted him a few years ago.

Spot duty to put pressure on the QB and give Bennett some time to rest his foot a little.
He might also be able to teach his spin move to the younger DL like Clark.

I seem to remember Freeney being on the other side of the DL than where Cliff played.

I love this. Freeney was big as a situational rusher for Atlanta. I see him as a Devin Hester type guy with just enough left in the tank to make an impact in a short term situation, a HOF guy, total pro. Why not?

Byron Maxwell was cut today, so maybe he might show up here for cheap to end the year?
We don't really need CB's but Lane as trade bait might work.

Freeney played well in the playoffs last year as I recall. If he has stayed in relatively good shape, I like the idea of him spelling Bennett whose plantar fascia seems to be a problem. He has played an awful lot of downs in pain and if Freeney can help, why not?

We've got a lot of youth on that D-line, and we're not bringing him in to rescue us or be a core player, but to fill a role and be a solid veteran influence and mentor for our youngsters.

Bingo. He also showed last year that he can still be very effective with limited snaps. I see him on the field as part of the NASCAR package on 3rd downs in obvious passing situations, but not being on the field for the first two. Get him 8-12 snaps per game, let him coach up the young-uns, and provide calm leadership on the defense. (I think the "calm" part is particularly important given what we've seen from Bennett and Sherman lately.)

Solid signing, doesn't matter that he's 37 which is not ancient BTW.

Our defense gets killed by short quick passing offenses. We must have quick pressure on the QB to force bad throws since this type of passing game is a high percentage completion strategy. Our LBs and safeties are dropping deep to stop the explosive plays and make offenses work their way down the field and then when the field gets compressed toward our goal line we stiffen and stifle.
A fast pass rush is key to this type of strategy. I'm not sure Smith or even Bennett at this point will give that quick pass rush. Therefore, I like this signing so that he can put the pressure on the QB between the 30s. If he were younger, I'd say between the 20s but I don't think he can be durable that long.

If Freeney can still play a bit, cool. 37 playing DE? Wow.

Sounds like Dion Jordan is ready to make it back to practice now, too. He may not be in shape enough to play for a week or two but holy smokes, that is going to be one scary front 4 no matter what the rotation is.

It would be the equivalent of Nolan Ryan throwing a 95 mph fastball at 45 if he can be productive.

What's not to like? We had a need and Freeny can still play a win win for both the club and the player. Too bad there isn't an equivalent O-Lineman future HoF who can still play that needs a job...
