Looks like it will be on Thursday, April 13th. I'm not sure how informative this is to the rest of you, but it helps determine my vacation planning.

Boy, the NFL sure knows how to squeeze every possible penny from their fans and how to keep themselves in the news year round.

Their marketing plan is amazing. You can never forget about the NFL as something is always going on.
I don't know why it's such a big story, though as it shouldn't matter if you find the schedule at 5pm or 8pm.
3 hours or the next day isn't going to make a lot of difference in most peoples lives - even if they are planning vacations around it like you are.

Since there's just 16 regular season games, people are a lot more interested in the specific dates than they are MLB with a 162 game schedule or the NBA with an 82 game schedule. If you're going to go to an NFL game, you're pretty much going to have to decide very early which game(s) you want to go to vs. MLB's 162 game schedule, which offers a lot more options.

The NBA regular season ends the day before on 4/12 and MLB teams' schedules are very light as Thursdays are a travel day before 3 game weekend series. That's why the draft is always held on a Thursday. They're holding their events on slow news days so they get maximum exposure.

I won't be hanging by the TV on 4/13 as it isn't that big of a deal to me except for vacation planning. But I will be looking at it the next morning.

Hmm...a press release to announce when they will be announcing the schedule...I mean, we already know the majority of the games we will play, just not when, and in some cases where. Always good to stay relevant I guess...

We know ALL of the regular season games and where we will be playing them:

Home: SF, LA, AZ, Philly, Skins, Texans, Colts, Falcons.

Away: SF, LA, AZ, NYG, Boys, JAX, TN, GB.

Although we do know exactly who we will be playing there are a few things I am interested in when the schedule comes out. I like to see who do we have to play on a short weeks rest, who do we have to play who has had extra days rest, when our bye is, and who do we have to play the game before our divisional games. When it comes down to the actual games, though, not much of that matters. Teams that look bad now could be playing great when we face them and vise versa. Injuries are another unknown that can change how a game looks now vs the regular season. With all that being said I do like to waste a little time when the schedule comes out to look at/complain about things that probably won't matter in 5 months.

Yeah, the timing of when we play the games as well as how many 10am games is mildly interesting, but the point I was trying to make was how the NFL tries to make even the most mundane announcement a big story.
It's all part of the marketing plan, and they do it well.

I've often thought sarcastically that the NFL should see if they can squeeze more publicity out of Black Monday, stretch it out over the entire week and assign each team a date by which if they are going to fire their coach that they have to announce it at that particular time/date, have Goodell announce each firing like he does with draft picks by walking dramatically to the podium, perhaps have a guest former player announce the firing. Kinda like Donald Trump's "The Apprentice".

Just thinking outside the box.

I had originally heard that the schedule would be released on the 13th, this Thursday, which made a ton of sense as it'll be a slow news day. But now I'm hearing that it won't happen until next week, that they're still working on it.

I realize that there's scores of factors that enter into the equation, but I'm curious about the process. Do they run it past the 32 teams to get their support? Who approves the final version?

I'm not just being randomly anxious. I have an appointment with a knee surgeon on 4/20 regarding possible knee replacement surgery, and for a number of reasons, not the least of which is my ability to attend a few games, if I'm going to have the surgery, I want to have it in December of this year.
