Apparently they are still hosting Charles today despite the Lacy signing.

He shows flashes of Lynch and in college, at one time I thought he looked a lot like him, but he isn't consistent.
This is another hit or miss signing, but he provides the power we didn't seem to have in the backfield.

I like it. It's a prove-it deal for the most physical runner on the market and Lacy will be as motivated as possible to get a contract next year. If it's with the Hawks, it means he earned it. If it's elsewhere, the Hawks get a supplemental pick.

If he sucks, then it's not a ton of money lost.

But my favorite part: this probably means AP isn't coming to Seattle.

According to PFT, Lacy weighed 267 lbs for his visit.
I hope the contract has a weight clause. As it is, he has to lose 30 or more lbs.

I'm considerably less excited if this is true. I'm with you on the weight clause.

Perhaps this explains the interest in Charles?

He came in for a job interview for 270! I am not impressed!

The signing could have merit, but I'm cautiously optimistic, as I'm sure everyone is. Would still like to see if they sign Latavius Murray, but the prevailing thought seems to be he'll go for Jacksonville that is closer to home and can offer more money.

[Edit]: Murray is meeting with Vikings instead of the Seahawks today. I'll assume the Seahawks aren't pursuing him anymore.

Again according to PFT, Pete said he wants him big.
He also said he wants him at about 240 lbs.

Hell maybe he can play some guard:{
Honestly there are some parallels with Beast. A similar running style, a high draft pick who wore out his welcome in a few years with his first team looking for a new home.
Conditioning never seemed to be an issue with beast however and he wasn't injury riddled till the last year. Its fascinating but what does it tell rawls, Prosise etc especially with Charles and Murray still in the mix as well?
Are PC and JS sensing the window is getting smaller and its now or never?

Its a radical departure to be going after all these FA guys, even if they aren't getting all of them.

By filling the Offensive needs in FA, they can take advantage of a deep Defensive draft might also be a factor.

Dang! I was reading all of the posts before writing my own and I was all ready to make the connection to the O-Line that Hawk made first. Pete may like him big but I hope not that big.

I too am "cautiously" optimistic. I have seen his effectiveness running behind the Packer's line. I also remember him getting hurt and missing games so I was hoping he was healthy and then I read in here that he weighed in at 267 LBS. The only ONE RB that could rush effectively at a weight around 245-60 and that was Cristian Okoye, the "Nigerian Nightmare".

One thing, as he accumulates carries he will wear down opposing defenses and that will help open up the whole offense. No, it won't the same as when Lynch set he tone, but it is not that big of a stretch that they have similar styles.

I really look forward to our O-line stabilizing leading a more productive offense and a more balanced team.

Signing Lacy hopefully means Schneider is getting his "mojo" back, can't wait to see the players he picks in the draft. Oh, and I always consider the day after the draft as "dessert". Love to see who the UDFA we come away with.

I would add Bettie to that list (and Lacy to some extent as he has been closer to 240 than 230 since he entered the league.

If a prove it deal on a team that's still playoff bound, along with injuries to our rb's, doesn't motivate this guy, nothing will.

Word is that the Packers weighed him in at 267, and that's why they didn't pursue him. If that's the case, he has nearly 30 pounds to lose to get to Pete's stated threshold of 240 lbs.

I like the fact that it's a one year prove it deal and like Joeckel he has a high ceiling, but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up. This is not the Eddie Lacy that scored 20 TD's in his first two seasons.

Pete didn't say 240, he said "in the 240's". And that's a direct quote from him talking to (I think) Dan Patrick.

Thanks for the correction.

But it doesn't alter my point that Lacy's weight is a huge concern. He's coming off ankle surgery, so that has to heal before he can start pounding the pavement.

Lacy's weight is such a concern that apparently his contract contains an incentive clause in it:

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/1891 ... ight-bonus

We'll see, but July is just 4 months away. Lacy has his work cut out for him if he wants that bonus.

Now that the contract details are out the numbers look a little better than what was first reported. The max is 4.2 mil, but only 2.8 is guaranteed, which gives Lacy almost 1.5 mil motivation to get his big butt in shape. If he doesn't the team is only out 2.8 mil which is less than they invested in Webb last year.

In todays world of pound shedding diets & breakthrough supplements, I find it plausible that Lacy could easily drop 30 lbs in 3 months. I see the hawks using him late in games when the defense is tired, (as a goal line stud), &/or 3rd & short situations. Welcome to the Seahawks big Ed!

I love this line in reference to the Lacy & Rawls tandem at RB:
Thunder and lightning are a frequent occurrence in rainy Seattle. This year, they may be a frequent one on Century Link Field.

Weight is just a number, this guy doesn't look real world fat.

No he doesn't look fat.

Regardless a world class athlete can shed 25 lbs rather quickly. The thing that is encouraging is that the last time he was healthy weeks one through five last year he played at 235, averaged 5.1 ypc and 2.1 yards after contact. Both those numbers are easily in the top ten league wide in 2016.
If he brings that sort of intensity and ability to Seattle it will be a good thing. Every team is better when they can run the ball on their own terms.

I'm not saying he looks fat, but as a person that himself is a good 30 pounds overweight, wearing dark clothing always makes you look thinner.

Hahaha! I agree, but black clothing can only do so much. He has a nice frame and I was surprised to see a waist. I don't think too many people actually believe he was 235 lbs last year... either way, he drops 15 or 20 and comes in :D good condition and this may just work out!

Although the picture doesn't have good lighting, a camera is supposed to add 10 lbs. It seems to add much more for me.
I've been wondering if that figure of 267 lbs was put out there by another team interested in him, but was overstated so as to scare off some competitors.

It looks like lacy has 7 weigh ins to gain $385,000. He gets $55,000 per weigh in (that he is at his target). Those targets are 255 in May, 250 in June and August, and 245 in sept, oct, nov, and dec. doesn't seem all too difficult. If he really was 267 then he has about a month and a half to lose the first 12 then it doesn't seem too tough.

I like this signing. he is a physical back, a big load to take down and the short terms will keep him motivated to produce. this helps give Rawls a little wake up call and takes some snaps from him since he seems to be less than durable so far. we don't need Lacy to be Lynch 2.0 we just need 3-4 yards a carry and some 3rd down conversions we haven't been making. get him in the gym and keep him hungry and this could be a great move

Pete has always tried to get a "hammer" for the ball possession part of the game. It's part of the physicality Pete covets on his teams and a big part of being the bully on Offense that the FO talks about.
Let's hope it all works out.

Old but Slow wrote:This seems like a great signing, and if Lacy has the 'want it' this season he could be a real surprise. Our young offensive line does not lack for size, athleticism, or desire, they are just young. With a years experience they will be better. How much better? We will see, but there is at least a glimmer of a return to a strong running game, and that, my friends, can do the trick.

Agreed, ObS. I almost look at this pickup like a draft pick. He has the potential to become a big part of our Offensive resurrection (to coin a phrase) but there are some doubts about his willingness to make the necessary sacrifices to get there.
We'll get an idea of how much 'want it' he has when we get reports from OTA's and then the start of TC. As well, ankle injuries can be difficult to fully recover from so that is also a bit of a wild card.

I've read a couple of comments online that said Pete is going to put Ifedi at RT this year. I haven't seen a direct quote, but if true, it might mean they are looking at drafting someone who can play RG. Maybe Siragusa or Asiata who it seems to me showed some athletic talent. Another person might be Moton who should be a good RT, but could move inside to G.

SoCal Hawk talked about Forrest Lamp. His arm length leads me to believe he won't be drafted as a Tackle by us if available, but in reading about him, maybe they might take him as he has the athleticism and power they like.
If they did draft him they should at least try him on the outside as sometimes intangibles overcome measureables and he played very well against some of the best college DE's and Edge rushers.

It looks like Lacy hit his first weight goal with the Hawks. He needed to be below 256 at this weigh in to collect his first bonus of $55k and he is at 253. Now he is supposed to be 250 for July and August and then 245 through December. He's hit the hardest of his targets already dropping 14lbs. I am really excited to see what he can do at 245 lbs. what a load! Pair him with Rawls and Procise and that is a pretty intriguing backfield.

The draft pick Chris Carson might be in the mix as well.
I hope he surprises us with a real good showing so he pushes Lacy to keep making a full effort and subsequently keep his weight down.
