Yeah, I'm hopin'.
PFT said Glazer noted they might go after coaches that are under contract to other teams.
The problem is they gave up so much in last years draft, they would have to give up starters like Donald and Gurley leaving not only the draft cupboard bare, but also a reduced talent level.

Honestly surprised he became a HC so quickly anyway. Truth is, he wasn't ready, at least as the head guy, when they hired him....
( Expect to see him get snatched up quickly after the SB as a DC, think Atlanta, maybe Indy or NO).

Well, he did have some experience as a DC. Jim Zorn and Mike Singletary didn't even have coordinator experience.
And you're right, he won't be out of work long.

How did he last 4 years is my question?
I'm glad he got the job so Quinn could lead us to the promised land. The last thing I remember about him as a Seahawk coach is having our defense set up in a deep TD prevent type defense with no press coverage against Atlanta in the 2012 playoffs with 21 seconds left,1 timeout and them needing 50 yards for a field goal try to win the game...

Why didn't Pete overrule that prevent defense? I've always wondered, but come to the conclusion that he agreed with that call at that time.

God, I remember that game. It was what I was thinking about towards the end of SB 49 when we were inside the 10...don't score too early or else Brady was going to do the same thing to us that Matt Ryan did to us back in the 2012 season.

I really thought the Jags were going to be decent this year and maybe get to .500 if not a winning season. Man, was I wrong. And not to split hairs, but Lynch scored the go ahead TD with 31 seconds and the Falcons had two timeouts.

Your right sis . Although after the kickoff it was 24 or 25 seconds I believe. 2 or 3 plays is all it took . Carroll wasted a timeout to ice the kicker as he was preparing to miss the first kick and he split it on the second try. Ugly ending.

That was a bummer for sure. But it was at the beginning end of our rebuilding. In hindsight, 2012 seemed like a good year for us. Now, to finish with anything less than a Lombardi seems like a bummer. How spoiled we have gotten. These are the good years, folks. ENJOY THEM.

Do fans remember the look on Russ's face when that field goal went in? I've never seen shark eyes like that, burning anger. It lasted a few seconds then he jogged off towards the locker room with a calm expression . Carroll later shared that Wilson was peppering him with questions about how to get better before they even got out of the stadium . I know he wasn't the only guy.
Much like Hass pounding his fists into the field turf following engrams 4th down drop vs the Rams in 04 I felt after Atlanta special things would come out of it. Did they ever.
It's indeed a special time .

On that last minute drive by the falcons we didn't just sit back in prevent, we blitzed on at least 2 of the plays. H-money getting hurt the week before on the crappy fed-ex turf really hurt. I think it was ryan Lindell who we signed couldn't kick the ball deep into the end zone and it was returned to like the 35 by jaquizz Rodgers. Then like 3 pass plays and they were in field goal range.

Dang just looked it up it was Ryan Longwell, not Lindsey.
I also found this random article about our blitzing on that final falcon's drive:

Yeah you are exactly right. Seattle blitzed secondary people and dropped linemen in coverage, ie a zone blitz. They had the corners 8 yards off the line of scrimmage after closing the gap by pressing in the second half.Totally conceded sideline throws that stopped the clock.
Matty ice ate it up like ice cream...

Gus did what he could there, and it's been an ugly situation in Jacksonville for years now.
It doesn't seem that his guys ever quit on him, but they should've been playing better compared to 2015.
Bortles has taken enough of a step backwards for them to question if he's the guy. His dismal season helped Bradley out the door, in all likelihood. The owner was patient enough, even under the circumstances of what was inherited. GB will get another gig soon enough. He's an excellent DC, and those will always be in demand.

You're right Zorn. He will be employed soon. Some guys aren't cut out to be HC material. Quinn appears to have what it takes though.

Not a bad idea. Hes still got some gas in the tank and a proven winner with ties to the area.

I think Coughlin is too old school for today's players. It is why Fisher became ineffective over the years. What worked 10 and 20 years ago does not work today. #millenials

Is he? I'm not being glib here, but barring three or four seasons stretched out over his career, the two SB wins on teams that were fortunate to get into the playoffs, what exactly has he done that's so impressive?
I could be confusing him with someone else I suppose, but isn't his career winning percentage somewhere in the mid fifties? Not a "bad" coach, and I am not trying to say he is, but I'm not overly impressed by a whole lot of 9-7 to 7-9 seasons with a sprinkling of excellent years over two decades.
At least not in a "proven winner" kind of way. They could certainly do a hell of a lot worse ( Jeff Fischer is available) but I would be surprised if Tom was the "best" available coach. To be fair though if they feel the team is just undisciplined, he indeed might be the best option.

You may have a point there HC. He had some mediocrity. And the team doesn't seem to miss him this season.
But he also won 2 lombardi's playing every playoff game on the road with what could best be described as an inconsistent QB who has tossed 20+ picks several times in his career.
He won them both against what has to be considered the best football organization ever assembled including taking down an 18-0 team.
As for Jacksonville he flipped an expansion team with Mark Brunell at the helm and made the AFC title game very early on as I recall. They were very competitive for years.
One downside that may be a meaningless stat is the goose egg of coaches winning it all at two different places.
I respect the guy. As a jacksonville fan i wouldnt be upset with the hiring.
If I owned the team id still get a young guy with a pedigree of grooming QB's.I think Bortles can be good but hes lost right now and thats the problem with the record.
Whether Coughlin or someone like Mike Smith you're still looking at somewhat of a short term solution IMO.
Don't sleep on interim coach Doug Marrone. Wasn't he the Bills coach for one season and turned in an 8-8 then resigned to pursue another HC position that he didn't get? What if they come out and tear up the last 2?

Truthfully I don't know. From what comes to mind about Coughlin his SB's were more a product of having a great pass rush, which IMHO is how you beat NE. Hit Brady, hit him again, and then hit him again. True Eli ( despite people's continued insistence that he's a sure fire HOF QB) won those games and SB MVPs, but I've always kind of viewed him as "super" Krieg, a QB when hot is almost unstoppable, but when cold is pretty damn bad.
Ultimately, I think people should be watching guys like Haley from Pittsburgh. A Coordinator with a history of offensive development. ( Probably not him to be fair, but a successful offensive coordinator in his mold. Maybe, McDaniels wants another shot from NE. Guys that perhaps weren't successful, but have experience, and pedigree).

I think you're right, HC.
Guys from successful teams tend to get better looks as potential Head Coaches.
I think that's why McDaniels got his opportunity a few years ago and he's denied he's happy to stay in NE to become the heir to Belichick.
If their GM thinks they need an Offensive coach to bring along Bortles (conditional on them believing in him), then guys like Haley or other current OC's should be on their list.
