Simon ~ cut.

I didnt see this coming, but it makes sense. He appeared to have the measurables, but couldnt stay healthy and he didnt seem to have the self discipline to avoid the personal fouls.
From ESPN.
The Seahawks have waived CB Tharold Simon, a league source tells ESPN's Field Yates. Originally a fifth-round pick in 2013, Simon dealt with a knee injury last week. He was taken off the injury report Friday but was inactive against the Miami Dolphins. Simon has battled injuries throughout his career, having played just 11 games in three seasons.

He may have a lot of talent, but if he can't stay healthy enough to gain experience and reach his potential, he isn't worth a roster spot.
Too bad because he has all of the measureables, and if Sherm is to believed, loads of potential.

I think this was a planned evolution to bring Tukuafu back after week one so his salary wouldn't be fully guaranteed.

I am not one to wish bad things on players, like getting cut, but in this case, I am pretty happy to know Simon won't be on the field for the 'Hawks, hopefully anymore. He never did anything to show he was going to be any kind of impactful player, and more often than not, ended up hurting the "Hawks with his terrible play.
And you are right CBob, Tukuafu was signed along with CB Neiko Thorpe, previously of the Raiders. Along with Simon, FB Tani Tupou was also waived.
Also some practice squad changed were made today.

I dont know much about Hamilton, however he's had quite the ride with the Hawks. He survived the cut to 53, only to be cut the following day. Then he's signed to the Practice Squad, only to cut a few days later. Ouch.

Yup, you and I said this a lot earlier this year, I was waiting for this cut, it just happened later than I thought it would.
Simon stunk, period. He couldn't cover anyone with speed, and he couldn't control his emotions, and he couldn't learn to stop committing OBVIOUS penalties.
I don't care how much raw talent a guy has, if he can't make it work for him, it's just wasted talent.
And that is Tharold Simon in a nutshell...wasted talent. Glad he's gone.

Yes to all of the above on Simon's limitations, plus he didn't seem to have spatial awareness or much of a nose for the ball when it was coming. More than the interception from Russell to Lockette in the SB, I am more frustrated by the two TD's Brady and the Pats easily scored on him. Having said that, I wish him the best. I know he has a family to feed.

Simon claimed by the Cards.....I am guessing this is more about Intel then on field. I remember the Rams scooping up some of the Hawks that were cut in and around the 2005-2008 seasons for the same reason, although seems weird to have a guy on your 53 for info only. Guess the Cards are a little needy at CB and figure he is worth the flier.

I don't know how much intel they could get from him.
They play them twice a year and have 5 years of game film and we don't play a complicated Defensive scheme.

I highly doubt they got him because of the intel. They play us so often, they know exactly what we do, and our scheme is very basic to begin with. They did need to add depth at CB, and he has all the tools. Obviously, they're banking on his ceiling, even if all we got was the floor, as someone said.

Looks like we're replacing Simon with former Raider Neiko Thorpe, just signed to the 53.

An ESPN comment is Simon could start for the Cards this week.
Were we trying to play personnel games and waive him then stash him on the PS perhaps hoping nobody claimed him?

It got so bad that the guys at Kells in Portland would say, Simon says, Time for another Touchdown.

Honestly, I'm not sure Simon would have been eligible for the PS despite his injury history..
Edit: he absolutely was NOT eligible ( a single season of "active" status negates a player from eligibility)..

He was active for a full season?
I didn't think he made it through any season without being injured enough to be inactive.

I promise, Simon was active ( which simply denotes suited) for 16 total games in his career.
( 11 games, 6 post season = 17 active games which is > than the sixteen game limit.)
Edit: also my mistake, it's 6 active games, not 16.

Yeah, I probably overstated the 'intel" part of Simon being picked up. Guess my bias for how bad I think he is made me think why else would they want him?..
The Cards are thin at CB, and he was probably worth the shot to pick up and see if they can fulfill some of that potential.
Glad he got scooped up, I wish no ill will on Simon, but definitely glad he is gone.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but when Simon was drafted I brought up that the trainer for his college team posted a note on the door, that he would NOT discuss three players that refused to play when hurt, put the team first, rehab properly, were always hurt etc... Of those three players Seattle drafted two ( Simon and Spencer Ware)....
One instance of Seattle scouting not hitting it out of the park.
Edit: number was wrong, but yes Simon and Ware were on the list as "selfish players" that would not be discussed... ( by the by, they also were part of the group with Mathieu to test positive for synthetic pot.)

I remember that. That proved to be prophetic.
