http://www.seattlepi.com/sports/footbal ... 201983.phpNot one, but two trades for safeties, and I thought the depth of the back 4 of the D was the 'strength' of the team... evidently the GM and Coaches had a different opinion.

Only thing I can figure, and this is without any research either player, is that they are looking for someone to fill the role they tried to create for Brandon Browner.
Even that doesn't make a lot of sense; I don't know why else they would do this, especially right before final cuts. So you're going to cut guys that have been in training camp and played in all the preseason for two guys that have had zero reps with the defense. Head-scratcher.

Head-scratcher.
Yup- I can't explain this, either. Anyone?

We were expecting BB to be in the mix at Safety but Pete said he "ran out of time" learning the position so we find ourselves in need of shoring up our depth there.
Secondary will always be the least of my concerns while Pete's around.

They also don't have many LB's.
I wonder if the Defense is evolving into some type of hybrid with Safety's playing LB roles.
Edit
On 2nd look, they have enough LBs, but I still wonder if they are going to use more DBs like said above in the Browner role.

My guess is the injury report may have some surprises.

I'm guessing they like them as special teams players?

Trade draft picks for, at best, special teams players.. I hope not. Kelcie was a real good p/u last year. I hope these kids prove as valuable.

I am not saying that they would only be special teams players their whole careers or that JS and PC don't like their upside. At the same time teams use draft picks for special teams players all the time. If they gave up 6th or 7th rounders and these guys became very good special teamers for us I would say it was a pretty good move!

The PI reported exactly that the team liked them for special teams, and that was the main interest for now.

Maybe they have a concern about KC and his contract. BTW I have never been a big fan of Simon's. He has had a lot of time and I see nothing special there. Am I wrong??

Simon was long on potential, short on production...
In coaching the word potential in my book was always a dirty word.. Players tease you with physical ability, but have trouble transitioning that on to the field..

10-4. Saying that a player, particularly one that's been around for a few years, has a lot of potential is the PC/coachspeak way of saying that they're either lazy, stupid, or both.

I think keeping 12 DBs (over 10 last year) and 5 LBs could signal an intention to use 6 or 7 DBs in coverage situations. I agree with the special teams view point as well. The loss of Ricardo Lockette was pretty clear on special teams, they need people to step up.

The only thing I can say is, they are both good special teams players, and we honestly needed an upgrade there, and maybe they are still trying to find the right players to implement that role they wanted Browner to play?
Other than that, I'm scratching my head.

Yep, McCray trade rescinded due to trade conditions not being satisfied.
The empty roster spot was filled by the signing of fullback/DT Tani Tupou, who was waived on Saturday by the Seahawks as part of the 53 man cuts.
Also some practice squad info in the link below.

I don' t get it. How did he pass a physical for the Niners but not us? Can he play for them after failing a physical?

Welcome HawkandBalls. It's good to see some new posters here.
That's always confused me with the passing or rejecting of players because of physicals.
I wonder if the teams are permitted to have different standards or maybe it's just each doctor has a different opinion?
You often hear about getting a 2nd opinion, so maybe it's that simple.

We had problems on Special Teams last year so maybe that was it. I had really liked Burley and couldn't understand them cutting him either.

or.. we traded for him and a few hours later found the other guy to trade for, so decided we really didn't need him, so we gave him back via the 'didn't pass our physical' routine.

Either that or he just didn't pass the physical.
