So I'm a big fan from the UK - would love your opinion on 2 things.

Firstly, do power rankings really matter?
Secondly, do we think, despite only a small climb in the tables this week - we can go further this season?

Answers, in reverse order, are no, and no.

Power rankings are pretty meaningless except to us football geeks.

Actually we dropped in that one, from 11th to 13th. I noticed that there were 10 teams that were 4-5, and we were the highest ranked team with that record. It's a pretty generous ranking IMO. Being that there are 12 playoff participants, 13th suggests that we are playoff quality, which IMO we are not.

Firstly: of course not. This isn't the BCS.

Secondly: if you're asking can we go further in the rankings, of course we can, all we gotta do is win.

If you're asking can we advance to the playoffs again, of course we can, but we're in a position now to where we have to hope for things beyond our control to happen. Even if we win out now we could still miss the playoffs. On the other hand we've made the playoffs before with a losing record, so at this point anything is still possible.

First off, welcome gibletmc1992, it's good to have you on board.

I think we have to concentrate on just getting better from game to game.
If we do, then we might have a chance to get into the playoffs, and from there anything can happen.

Yes, and welcome aboard Gib! (I really did mean to put that in my response somewhere ... I must be getting either forgetful or crotchety in my old age ...)

That's a classic clip, and what he says could be said about this year for us, too.
We gave the other teams the games too often this year and it may mean we miss a chance at another championship.

Yea, that's why I posted it, because talk of us making the playoffs with the way we've played this season with no indication that's it's going to change makes me think of Mora Sr.'s famous playoff lecture.

I also would like to put forth a suggestion for Pete to adapt one of his USC head coach predecessors John McKay's response to a question posed to him in a post game press conference. When asked what he thought about the execution of his offense, McKay replied "I'm all for it!"

Power rankings are the tie break decider that comes in to play after Coin Flip.

I fully expect us to climb in the power rankings. That being said, in order for my expectations to materialize we have a lot of things to figure out.

I don't think that's correct.

It's not even as though there's an official NFL Power ranking committee ala the BCS. Who's ranking's they gonna use? Pete Prisco's? Peter King's?

I'd like to hear how power rankings fit into the picture as well.
I hadn't heard about that component of tie breaking before.

After a coin flip? The tiebreakers end with a coin flip, there is no tiebreakers afterwards. Who ever wins the flip gets the nod.

Here's the tiebreaking procedures:
