Its a season on the brink right now. If Gabbert gets a game ball next week it will officially be a dumpster fire and right now it wouldn't shock me.

One week at a time.
And, yes, we need some help.
Vikings do have a solid shot at beating GB in Minnesota.
Hass led Colts are better than Luck playing through injury, and the Falcons are perfectly capable of dropping that game.
No guarantees, but at least it's plausible.
Naturally, we have to beat SF.
Can't take anybody lightly, but it's looking pretty good that we manage at least that much.

I would be happy simply crushing the 2-2-2-? Thing. Already lived that once, not interested in reliving the experience.

LOL! I was thinking of that, too, the 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 thing. Late 80's, close to the end of Knox's run. It was the epitome of Dave Krieg's inconsistency. I don't think we want Russell to have to deal with that comparison.

Actually guys I have to look it up but im sure the 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 was 1985,Knox's 3rd season. The Hawks had the 83 cinderella run to the AFC title game, were a 12-4 WC losing in the Orange bowl to Marino in 84, and entered 85 loaded and a Superbowl dark horse. And then.......
This year kind of reminds me of that one, that entire era frankly. Its kind of scary.

Except for the fact that this team has not only went to the Super Bowl but also won it!

Yeah I know we won a SB and went to back to back. I said what I meant to say. THIS YEAR.
I was on a state championship football team as a sophomore many years ago. The D was nicknamed the "nightstalkers". We were so dominant we gave up 50 points all season including the playoffs.I played on 2 more teams with some of the same players but we never did anything like that again.
No two teams are the same. The past 3 seasons were the gold standard for Seahawks fans. But this year has that same old Seahawks feel to it. Its the feeling that had me sweating bullets in the 3rd quarter of SB 48 with a 29-0 lead.I couldn't believe these guys were different.
That feeling of no lead being safe.....Its back unfortunately.

There are some common threads between this era and the Knox era. Both teams featured some great defenses and both had a rather simplistic offense that liked to run the ball. The biggest difference is that Pete's teams were able to secure HFA while Knox's teams had just one home playoff game.

I agree that in general Carroll's philosophy much more closely resembles Knox than Holmgren. As you say defense and run heavy offense is a staple of both. The thing that set the last 3 years apart from any other regime was the ability to overcome, to be mentally tough enough to win in spite of any odds. Thats how the teams in 2013 and 2014 were able to get HFA in the first place.
This season is another one of those Charley Brown seasons like I remember in the day where it seems Lucy is getting ready to yank the ball before we can kick it.Its a what can go wrong season, not a how can we win. Granted the book is still open just a crack so we will see how the final chapter is written on 2015 but so far its a tragedy.

Naw, that's not what did it. It was when I took down my #12 flag. That was the spark that lit the fire.
