Things to Watch Tonight vs Chiefs

Other than O-line play, what are your thoughts about what to focus on in watching tonights game? What areas will PC be paying particular attention to? The game will be broadcast on NFL Network at 5pm PST

I want to see how Marsh is coming along. Pete said he's had a great camp so far.
As well, Rubin in the middle interests me now that we lost McDaniel.

On the Offensive side, I'm interested in seeing Rawls and wonder if he can be impressive against top players and not just backups struggling to make a team.
As well, continued improvement between Wilson and Graham.

Bottom line, though, is I want both teams to get out of there healthy.

I am interested in Bailey, he did pretty well against Denver. He might be playing against the Rams in the opener.

I want to see the Wilson to Graham connection.

I want to see both Marsh and Clark again, both stood out last week.

I want to see all of our receiving core, especially the rookies and B.J.

I wanted to see our rookie L.S. again, but unfortunately he was cut earlier this week. I was disappointed because our regular L.S. the last several years was NOT automatic last season and had some issues.

Oh, and I want to watch the O-Line, especially Gilliam, Britt, and Novak and how well they do. Especially Novak, I want to see if he can make the line calls.

Our Defense is showing they are going to be just as dominant as usual. That is great because they are going to have to because our offense is looking TERRIBLE!!!

Defense is playing great, but we didn't need that face mask penalty.

KC is moving the ball our defense is getting tired, get used to it with our anemic offense so far.

Our Offense did better in that 4th. drive, for the FG. One of the things I noticed is that RW was under center on 1st. a few times, and it did make all of the difference.

CM has looked better than Turbin.

What can you say about the defense, and B.Wags earns his money every game!

One, their 2nd stringers are better than our 2nd stringers. 2. The OL is still a sieve. 3. We are 0-2 in the Exhibition season. No team has lost all 4 of its Exhibition games won the SB, except the strike Skins at 8-1. 4. The Refs looked horrible. 5 only point #2 is viable moving forward!

How did Archer look? He got the whole 2nd half and I had to miss the whole 2nd half.

obi, Archer look surprisingly good. He was accurate on the shorter throws, and he had a few drops make his statline less impressive that it was. Make no mistake, we don't want him throwing deep, but given the way this offense is set up to rely on the run game I think he could manage the offense well enough to get a W against a poor defensive team. That is, if this wasn't his ceiling.

Also, I thought the OL was better than against the Broncos. Still poor and makes me very, very nervous, but I'm starting to think that the switches on the OL are for the better.

I'm going to try to watch the replay of this game, but I think the OL looked better in pass protection, but still not good run blocking.
It's too bad for the RBs as they really don't get much of a chance to show what they have.
The DL is pretty good in providing pressure as we'd expect and not bad against the run.
The Defensive front 7 look to be a pretty strong group, and the LBs look like a real fast group.

I was impressed overall with the backups in the secondary. Bailey is a real hitter, and they aren't the LoB, but overall they showed some promise.

Offensively I thought there was quite a bit of improvement on the line last night considering we were going against the #2 defense in the league last year for the whole first half. We're still not where we need be, but I think for the personell we have now we're at least on the right track. Archer is better than I expected and I can't wait till we we finally unveil what we're really gonna do with Graham. I get the feeling we're trying not to show too much too soon ...

On defense Shead at corner looked good but I think he'll wind up our Safety that can move outside when the need arises. I was impressed by Coyle and KPL. We miss (or maybe I just miss) Bam Bam.

All in all enough improvement from week one to keep my off the ledge.

Brock said this morning to expect complete vanilla. No real schemes other than basic stuff. The absence of key players and no game plan make me feel good about what I saw. Which was an improvement against a tougher D opponent. We will be ok.

I'm m interested to see what, if anything, happens w/ Mathis.

OK, I was excited about Mathis coming here until I heard he had turned down an 8.5 mil. contract with the Eagles and we have only 5.5 mil. to work with under the CAP. That means that the F/O would have to cut someone with a significant contract (or trade away for picks) and the only player I want to do that to is Okung (just kidding) after his latest false start last night.

The second have was more sloppy as you would expect, and yeah, Archer looks to be a keeper and heir-apparent to being RW's back up. CM looked better as the game went on, I thought we should have stuck with him instead of bringing back Turbin after he had sat the whole 2nd. half up to that point.

There is a huge drop off in talent in the secondary when you get to the 3rd. string, as expected.

B.J. continues to look very good as a receiver and Lockette looked really really good as a receiver.

The Seahawks could go with youth and possibly cut Doug Baldwin which might free up enough CAP money to either satisfy Kam (who is talking about sitting the entire season according to Mike Rob.) or pay for Mathis but then we would have absolutely zero CAP space for any flexibility in case of in season injuries.

I heard that he turned down a million dollar raise which would put his salary at about 6 million.

Regardless, it would seem too high for us unless he wants to take a cut to play for a team that could very well go back to the Super Bowl this year.

First, it's actually far less than that, because the number (call it 5 million) is earmarked for injury signings and the like.
So yeah, it's probably not going to happen with Mathis, and if it did, we would likely have to cut someone significant.
The name I hear most often of course, is Mebane, who they already asked to restructure, and already said no. I'd be disappointed if he were the cut, as I think he's poised for a HUGE year. Still would you rather have a run stuffing DT who plays approximately 40% of the snaps, or an offensive lineman who plays 100%? I know my answer would be see ya Mebane, even with the downgrade to TY McGill replacing him.

The other name, (which wouldn't bother me at all actually) would be Kearse, the savings would be far less though, and probably wouldn't be enough by itself. Someone else would also probably have to be cut along with Kearse. Another outside possibility would be either cutting, or extending Irvin's contract and working it to give us cap savings this year, but I honestly don't see that happening. I think next year we will let him walk.
It just seems like an outside chance right now, but hey...I never say never with John Schneider!

You would think if they were going to cut or trade someone, which I think is wrong at this point, it would be someone who is complaining the most, but the idea they cut / trade Kam, Irvin or Bennett never holds traction. Why Mebane? The first 1/2 of last night was a prime example. The D-Line is a rock, although I think our linebackers are now the #1 part of the D.

Last night we had 7 Cornerbacks, including our top 4 not play. Next week our starters and a couple others are supposed to come back and then Thomas should play a little the week after, leading into the season. Maybe we see a little more of the LOB.

Considering they only had 2 days to practice, last night's version of the #1 OLine looked a lot better in the 2nd quarter then the first. Okung, Britt, Nowak, Sweezy and Gilliam looked better then I thought they would. I read online comments about the 'no holes' but Michael had some good runs and on a side note, do you think Michael read his own bad press? That 'chip' block, as KC's announcer's called it, on their LB Ford. That was the first time I've seen him block anyone.

You are dead on about the cap. During the preseason only the top 53 count against the cap. As soon as the season starts, the roster + the practice squad + IR all add up to the cap, so you have to keep a few million on the side. We pretty much have nothing.

It's interesting listening to the Chiefs announcers. I had to keep the roster up on my computer as most of the time you wouldn't know who the Chief's were playing if it wasn't on TV.
