Maxwell Guarentee's SB for Eagles

So Maxwell really likes what the Eagles have going on, so much so that he is guaranteeing a SB trip. They might have a good team but I would look at whose throwing the ball for them before guaranteeing anything like that.

"Put another mark in the "Player X guarantees Super Bowl trip in May" offseason clichés column. Then again, what's he supposed to say? "

Players have to go into any season thinking they're going to win it all.
If they don't, why bother playing if they think they're going to lose?
You can't give your best effort if you think you are already beaten.

I don't disagree that that should be his mindset but players don't have to guarantee a super bowl trip in May. It's not like somebody asked him "hey do you think you guys are going to the Super Bowl" he just decided to guarantee that on his own. When I read that last part 'then again what is he supposed to say' I thought ' don't say anything' pretty simple. He doesn't have to say anything about the Super Bowl. I think it is especially funny that he is guaranteeing a SB when his QB is either going to be Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, or Tim Tebow.

I think it's overly boastful, too but I don't think you can turn that mindset off and on.

I'm always amused at how casually players throw around words they obviously don't understand. Guarantee means there's some sort of consequence if they fail to meet their predicted outcome, such as a money back guarantee or some sort of warranty that compensates a person for a loss. Just once I'd like to hear a reporter challenge a boast like Maxwell's and ask them what they're going to do to in the event they don't achieve their prediction. Perhaps shave an eyebrow like Kaepernick had to do?

I'll have to add that players aren't the only ones that misuse the term.

I agree there never really is any consequence for these types of 'guarantees' so it doesn't mean much when they throw that term around.

So, who's the liar? Romo or Byron? Can't both be right.

I hope the media brings this point up when they play each other twice.
My personal opinion at this point is Dallas will beat the Eagles easily.

Interesting, I don't see Dallas winning that division next year, but who knows?

How many shutouts did Lofa Tatupu predict one season? 5? It's nice that players are so passionate in their expressions of confidence in their team, but they need to keep it real unless they want to be lampooned if their brash predictions don't come true.
