I thought the M. Bennett was phenomenal all last season.

Today, Pro Football Focus updated their rankings of the Top 100 Players - PFF Ranked Bennett as the #21 best player in the NFL.

>>>>>Only his terrible penalty count prevented him from cracking the Top 20 for a second year in a row, but that shouldn’t take away from another excellent showing by Bennett. Fantastic against the run and dominant rushing the passer, if the Seahawks won the Super Bowl it would be him we spent the night talking about after his Herculean effort. One of the most destructive players in the NFL.

Best Performance: Super Bowl, NE @ SEA, +5.8

Key Stat: 70 quarterback disruptions second most of all 4-3 defensive ends.<<<<<<<<<

Unlike Wilson who will be in training camp no matter what - Bennett is giving the signals that he will end up holding out - because he (accurately) believes that his current contract underpays him significantly from the performance level that he has achieved on the field of play.

too bad he signed the contract he signed. The FO should not budge on him, IMO

While I agree, the FO F upped when they caved to Lynch. Now they cannot say we do not do business that way. Bennett out performed his contract at least as much as Lynch so why shouldn't he get more. As much as I like the FO they have screwed up a little. caved to Lynch, paid others top dollar but now balking at our QB. A dangerous game, I hope they work it out.

I knew caving in to Lynch would set a terrible precedence. Actually, I thought there would be more players that .would back with their hands out. Why am I not surprised that it was M.B. He had just signed a contract but now wants to leverage his trade to Chicago. He did NOT out play his contract, he had better stats because he had to play more since we had lost other guys to FA the previous year. He just wants go play with his brother since he believes there is no way our Seahawks are going to make it to 3 SB's in a row.

So, trade him, but not to Chicago, Atlanta, or even to the Jaguars. Trade him to Cleveland for the highest draft pick to can squeeze out of them.

That will send a BETTER message!

When did the FO cave to Lynch? Their stance was they don't tear up contracts before the last year of the contract, which is to the best of my knowledge how they handled Lynch, they moved guaranteed money, but didn't void his contract, did not pay him one cent more than they were already on the hook for, and did not change his contract. Moving money owed, isn't caving, and happens every off season with nearly every team.

Besides, this is a thread abou Bennett not Lynch, stick to the topic at hand, and discuss only Bennett, and how great he is.

Actually they did. Do not want to tear up Wilson last year and do a new deal but they did for Lynch.

"The deal is believed to include more than $10 million for Lynch in the 2015 season alone. Lynch currently is slated to make $5 million in 2015, the final year of what originally was a four-year, $31 million deal. " Now you are correct that the year before they moved money around, again something they said they would not do. However why cant they do that for Bennett?

So he was suppose to make 5 mil in his last year, and under the new deal he gets 10 mil in what would have been his last year HMM. So basically they went form saying they would not do that to doing it and now Wilson wants them to do it but they will not. HMM Like I said the FO F upped by not sticking to their guns with Lynch and now they have to figure out how to make it work for others.

You see the problem is it is not just about Bennett or Wilson, but every player who was under the impression form the FO they do not redo or change current contracts. Now they have proven they will do both. However it appears only for Lynch.

Never said they wouldn't do a new deal for a player, what they have said, is they will not do a new deal for a player before the last year of their contract, and they have consistently said that, and followed it, there were SEVERAL players that received the same, well before Lynch. Clemmons was one, Browner was another, as was Sherman, ET, KJ etc... All of those players had to wait until their final year before a re worked contract, why Lynch is some sort of beacon to you I have no idea, but they have stayed consistent in that process from year one.

Do not want to tear up Wilson last year and do a new deal but they did for Lynch

And this is a made up assumption, which you chastised JS for in another thread, you do not know the particulars of what Seattle is wanting or willing to do in Wilson's case, so spare us.y

I agree the FO cannot budge any this year for Bennett. Any action by the Front Office to close the Gap for what Bennett is currently being paid with the free agent market value of one of the Top 5 Defensive lineman would create future chaos with every player under contract on the roster each year moving forward.

Micheal Bennett might be one of the most intelligent football players the league has ever seen - So in the end he may hold out but at some point he will rationally conclude that getting paid $7 million dollars is still better then getting paid $0 and will report to camp.

I really appreciated how well Bennett played this past season and its nice to see that he is getting recognition for his outstanding efforts and performance from last year.

For clarity sake, here are his contract details.
By the way, his name is spelled Michael, not Micheal.

Last year he got 10 million (8 million signing bonus and 2 million base salary) and this year he'll get 6 million.
Next year he will get 5 million (4 million salary and 1 million roster bonus)
and the last year of the contract 7.5 million (6 million base and 1.5 in roster bonus).
2015 salary is guaranteed for injury only.
16 million is guaranteed (the first 2 years, apparently).
The average earnings are 7.125 million.
The above according to spotrac.

At an avg of over 7M per year, can anyone tell me where that ranks among his peers in the NFL? I'd like to see where he ranks among other players at his position.

I think that puts him around 15th-16th in the NFL.

Tied for tenth with Avril.

He's right around there, although its a little more complicated then that. If you go by average he's like 11 or 12. Although he is listed as a DE he really plays inside often enough to look at the DL list (which is who Bennett is probably comparing himself to) he is tied for 19th.
